I agree with all of your tips on confidence. I use to ride once per week, then added a lesson, and this was great but didnt really improve my confidence. Once I started riding 2 different stables, on different horses, as often as 4x and more per week, my confidence grew like wild fire and I have now bought my first horse. I still ride the same 2 stables on the weekends and use them as riding skill refinements ... also now I know a lot more, I am able to ask a lot more question from the more expereinced riders / owners. Good video thank you.

I have had my horse 16 years and I have become extremely nervous because he has gotten more anxious. He spooks easily just riding him in my pasture. He is extremely anxious on trail rides with other horses and starts jigging and spinning and running sideways. I have lost all confidence. I have spent thousands on horse trainers and am still at ground zero. One trainer had my horse for 5 months and I don't think he ever rode my horse. He kept saying it was me and not the horse, yet he never worked on trail rides with me or how to diffuse the situation when my horse spooked. Thank you for your tips. They are extremely helpful.

What I'll always do, when I find something I don't feel confident in is going a step back.
Always go a step back and ask yourself if you're confident in this one already and when you are, just do baby steps. And when you're not.. well, you gotta practise a little more until you can do the next step.
Also bonding, groundwork, liberty. Getting to know a horse well and bonding with them automatically makes you more confident riding them.

Carmella, I have watched dozens upon dozens of videos on every topic related to horsemanship, the care of horses, riding and training. Yours are the videos I enjoy most and learn the most from. Your humble and concise explanations are detailed enough to give me powerfully useful information that I can apply immediately with my horse, without overwhelming me with equestrian jargon and elitist attitudes which unfortunately are so common in this field. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I am a far better rider, care taker, trainer and lover of my beautiful mount in large part thanks to you. Please continue sharing your wisdom, experience and advise in your uniquely refreshing manner.

This was a great video! I have a lifelong bucker. Funny enough, I came off dozens of times with no fear... until she reared and landed on top of me. Physically ok, emotionally destroyed. Confidence shattered. The best thing I did for my confidence was take lessons at a barn with many great well trained TB school horses. Learning new tips and skills, and realizing I COULD control these different gorgeous horses, gave me the confidence to ride mine. It was an investment in my most loved hobby, and worth every hour of OT I had to work to afford it.

I’ve been riding my horse bareback. She’s old, past thirty, and with her back sinking slightly my saddles don’t fit her no more. I don’t plan to get her a new saddle because her and I don’t do anything serious. Back when I was learning to ride her bareback I did a little trick to help. I don’t know if i can call it a trick. 😅 I promised myself no matter how scared I was I’d keep the correct posture to ride, because when I was scared I’d want to curl forward and hold her neck. I’d imagine that I have already fallen and I’d try to imagine hitting the hard earth and hidden rocks. Imagining and trying to believe in my head that I have already fallen made riding a lot less intimidating back then. ☺️ She’s old and stubborn but she has taught me so much. Now in her old age, I can’t go on any hard trails or any long hard rides but just being with her everyday has brought me so much happiness.

Great video! I'm learning to ride on a cheeky, lazy, 1800lb draft horse that knows I lack confidence. So he has been bucking me off, and I got scared and started anticipating when riding or doing groundwork, which he definitely senses. So I'm excited to try your suggestion for having fun as it'll ease the fear. Riding is as big a mental and emotional game as it is physical!
