When dismounting, stepping out of the stirrup onto to the ground can be extremely dangerous - foot can get caught, horse can move etc. After bringing right leg over, lean over the saddle, release left foot from stirrup then, holding horn and back of saddle slide off the horse.

We are going on a family holiday from the UK to California to do some trail riding. The riding style is so different from what I'm used to! The reins are so slack and your stirrups are so long. I am going for a vacation for 2 weeks and i haven't rode since age 10, 30 and 35 and now i'm terrified to do that because my woman wants to ride and i don't. I think i don't have it in me anymore. That was very clear and informative. Nice video :)
Maybe getting off the horse can be easier where instead of keeping the left foot in it, we hold onto both hands and the stomach on the saddle to be able to remove the left foot and then let ourselves slide slowly to the ground. But maybe it's not how it is supposed to be done. I have no idea about Western horse riding and I am all the way from France :)
