Excellent camera work. I like the way the videographer kept the plane large and centered at all times. Sorry to see it crash, though. I used to haul jumpers in the D-18. Did aileron rolls but never tried to loop it. I think a real one could probably do a loop but the altitude and airspeed weren't there for this model. Sad. It was a beautiful model.

Generally speaking, one can't fly those scale aircraft like a pattern ship. I found two other beautiful Beachcraft models that crashed in a similar fashion when the pilot tried to fly them like his pattern ship.

great shame. That unfortunate pilot will probably be kicking himself for a while after watching this footage. In my opinion, the worst type of crashes are pilot error in a beautiful plane and filmed by your friends!

Since my previous comment, it appears this was an early flight on a relatively fresh model. The top of the loop was low, but but the elevator movement was very small, so the pitch rate wasn't that high. The loop radius was unexpectedly wide. Looking at the down line there was very little elevator angle.

I flew a Beech 18 professionally for a couple of years back in the 1980s. It was actually pretty good at doing aileron rolls.
