💛💛Here's my advice on adding texture and why I think its often an important stage in the digital art-making process! 💛💛

Adding texture is an often forgotten aspect of digital art but it can make a piece go from good to great in a suuuuper subtle way. I love making my digital art a little more tactile and traditional looking.

When I was younger I used to play around with stuff like this and now I have to relearn it all because I started being too clean and stiff.

I love adding noise, otherwise everything looks too “sterile” for my taste. Great vid, very useful for beginner artists 💚

##ART TIP##

Hi young artist here lol, and I'd like to share that using textures like screen tones, etc. the same way with the last 2 steps(?) as things like shadows and sometimes the flat colors can be a great thing as well! Using screen tone for shadows can help achieve a manga/comic vibe with a piece as long as it's executed well! I've seen people use textures like stars for galaxy representive paintings as blocks of colors or shadows help a ton to show what the piece is trying to present!

I do a little thing where I do my shadows in one flat color, usually a dark brown-red (dried blood is the closest description) then I'd clip things like a lighter tone of the color or something with an entirely different hue! I'd then choose any blending setting that suits it, mess with opacity and other settings and voila! It makes a ton of stuff pop which is what I aim for alot!

That's all for now lol, hope it helps!

YouTube's monitoring me. On an aloud brainstorming pace around my room this morning, i said i wanted to add texture to my pieces.
What does YouTube give me as soon as i open the app? Hm....my FBI agent wants me to get better at art too huh?

I love this so much! I will definitely try the tips on my next drawings!
The only thing that hurts my eyes is the first two minutes, zooming in and out so quickly

THANK YOU SO MUCH!
For the longest time I have tried to figure out how to add texture to my drawings, but it didn't quite click for me, until now. n.n
You did a very nice job explaining your methods. Thank you for taking your time to share them with us. :3

U can kind of do the noise technique in traditional drawing. I find that it can look quite similar to what you showcased in the video, when you draw with a colored pencil and gently go over some spots with a wiper. I must say i hate wipers and i usually dont use them but sometimes i like to go back into my colored pencil drawing with them bcs they Make the colour slightly lighter and the vibrancy changes. You should try it

When I am shading, I smoothen out a little bit the edges so the texture of the brush kinda disappears cause I thought the shadow won't look natural. After watching this video, I realized that I think it will be better if I didn't smoothen it out if since originally I want a textured illustration hehe. Thanks a lot for this video! Certainly learned a lot from this! This will help me improve my artworks!

Oh I love this! I'm still in that really awkward transition stage from traditional to digital so this is really helpful!

Thank you so much for this video! I have a bad habit of always sticking to my comfort zone since I’ve always just been either too lazy or scared to experiment. I’ve always found texture to be fascinating in digital art and always wanted to find a way to implement in my art style. I’ll be sure to refer back to this video from time to time to help me find my stride in using more textures!
