i'm a relative noob in the linux world started with mint for a year found Manjaro( 3 years deep in it paying Muller $5 a month) and it just works with my needs ( twitch streamer and basic browser email etc) and i at least know how to maintain and somewhat trouble shoot it myself. if not i have a sys admin friend that runs full arch so i go to him and he helps me and i learn he is a good guy :)

In 2021 in the new year my PC died. Hi needed the power supply either repaired or replaced and that PC is six years old now and I thought oh fuck here comes the nightmare planned by partly planned obsolescence…
Stead of enduring that planned obsolescence and replacing a perfectly fine desktop PC with the newest and latest parts. …
I am just going to buy a black box with everything I need in it and then shove in the old parts that I already have from the busted one.
It is Manjaro or was and will be on Christmas and I am delighted and I am pretty sure I am not going to have any headaches at all.
And about weather it is called this or that I don’t even care anymore. I mean by that if a visitor looks at it and then they go wow what’s that I just say it is linux and then they roll their eyes and change the subject….

So, basically, saying "Manjaro is Arch" is like saying "Ubuntu is Debian."

I'm 65 and I work full time. Manjaro made Linux easily accessible to me. I don't care to say that I'm Arch user. I use Manjaro.

Before watching I wanna comment my honest opinion. No, it’s not. It somehow pretends to be something, and it’s not quiet user friendly neither it is arch. Manjaro tries to make arch something to use but the reality is that for you to be able to understand what’s going on in your system (manjaro) you need to have an understanding of arch. And I’m pretty sure many people try manjaro without having used arch before. Yes it is more user friendly but only when you’ve dealt with arch before. I can say from personal experience that pamac is kinda problematic.

This is factually wrong. You do realize there is an ongoing court case with SCO and Linux, right? And that all terms have been officially defined, right? For legal purposes?
A "Distro" isn't defined as "whatever the developers say it is"; it's also weird that you say this since it's in the name: DISTRObution.
It's what is distributed.
A Fork is any Distro that is based on one of the Seeding/Root Distros while manitaining it's own in-house Development and Repositories.
Flavors of a Distro may barrow Development and copy Repo Apps and get Hotfixes from Root/Seeding/Parent Distros; in that sense Forks are Independent and Flavors are Dependent.
The Seeding/Root Distros are: Debian, Slack, Mandrake (now Mandriva), Redhat/Fedora, Enoch/Gentoo, Arch, Android, etc.
Arch also keeps a list of "Arch-Based" Flavors, which are Distros that are Dependent on them.
