I returned my Scribe this morning. Good for reading on but heavy in the hand. Good for note taking but not that good. Totally agree with you. I'm going all in iPad for now.

Love the e-ink but note taking experience on the iPad is infinitely better

I own both the Scribe and the Mini, and will be returning the Scribe……..this video has hit the nail on the head. The Scribe is too limited

Completely agree with the advantages of the Mini.

I hear you. But I’m 69 years old, with a complex prismatic eyeglass prescription. The iPad mini just isn’t workable for me. If the Scribe’s e-ink display saves me from eyestrain, then it’s worth the inconvenience.

You can not compare the two. They are not the same class of devices. A Scribe is NOT a tablet. A scribe is not meant to do the thing tablets are made for. i

Given the costs of the devices, I do not know why you would buy the Scribe before an iPad of any size. However, I have both a Remarkable 2 and recently the Scribe and find them complementary to my iPad Pro. As an aside, the only advantage of the Scribe right now over the Remarkable 2 is the lighted screen, which I find very useful. So, Amazon has a lot of catching up to do to make the Scribe all that it could be as a reader and writer. If they do that soon, watch out. Clearly today, unless you have some money to throw around, iPad first, e-ink second.

I have both, the iPad mini (and 2nd generation Apple Pencil) and the Scribe. I still say outright that NOTHING will be the Apple products in terms of documentation. The issue, though is the annotation in my kindle books, that the Scribe allows.

Yes, I can annotate on PDFs, in the iPad, and in as many colors my heart desires. But, not on my epub kindle books in kindle app. Nor can I handwrite in iBooks. I still have to type. Any bibliophile will tell you that to write in the margins of your books allows more bonding with the material. I gave up on my kindle device because of that. I buy kindle books but read them on iPad and the big screen iPhone. But something was missing. I want to HANDWRITE INSIDE OF MY BOOK…NOT TYPE, which takes too long to express my thoughts. I couldn’t do it in the iPad, either.

Now, with the Scribe…I CAN WRITE! IMMEDIATELY! On my e.pub as well as pdfs! My main beef with the Scribe is that you can’t write notes on audiobooks. Who wants to struggle with typing while they are listening?. And, I wish they made their scribe the same size as an iPad mini for better portability.

So, I intend to keep both. I use my iPad and pencil for the art apps like Procreate and Art Set. Now, if Apple decides to allow this same functionality to create handwritten stickers to their colored ebooks, or even pick up where I left off to write in the kindle app…then, I’ll have exactly what I need.

As good as an iPad Mini might be, if you just want a note taking device and ebook device, nearly all of the eInk tablets are significantly cheaper than the iPad Mini before you account for the Apple Pencil price on top. If you want an eReader and note taking device, I'd go for a Boox or the Supernote before an iPad Mini.

ipad is not an e ink tablet. so the comparison is meaningless for me.

Just gave my ipad pro to my kid and use my Scribe instead. It is an amazing note taking device, ipad is not even close, even with a paperlike foil. Nice try Apple, but the Scribe is just better (for note taking).

Do you have Remarkable 2 device? I'm planning to get it over the Kindle Scribe. I already have a Kindle Paperwhite so I just cannot justify in getting a Scribe due to lack of features. I also have an Ipad Pro and mini - the problem with an Ipad is that 1) battery doesn't last long; 2) it hurts my eyes when I starred at the screen for a longer period. I usually read my notes while lying on the bed - which is a poor habit for ruining my eyes . That's why I'm thinking of getting a Remarkable 2. I can import pdfs and take highlight notes.

Totally agree. The iPad Mini is the best e-reader. Color trumps E Ink.

They are completely different devices. You can't compare an e-ink device with a tablet.

You should do a video on the boox tab ultra. It's a fantastic Android 11 tablet with an e-ink display
