The Secret To Feel Confident Talking To A Camera

Today, we're going over how to talk to a camera for YouTube, and feel confident doing so! This can be extremely difficult at first, so I wanted to share some tips to make it easier, help build up your confidence, and hopefully, you can begin to enjoy the process!

I recently had an insight. Don't worry about mistakes. When you notice a mistake. Stop talking for about one second. It will produce a noticeable gap in the audio track. This will let you know where to make a cut in the edit. The pause also gives you time to collect your thoughts and start fresh. Also, some editing programs have silence detection. This allows you to decide which spots to cut and which to leave in because they were genuine thoughtful pauses. It's OK to repeat or rephrase lines. Let go of the idea that you have to be perfect from beginning to end. Memory cards are relatively cheap. They can be re-recorded many times. This is my biggest fallback and hardest part for me to get, being comfortable in public filming myself. I feel silly sometimes and I haven't been able to get over that. It's the toughest part for me. Thanks for the tips.

Thanks for the tips, Josh! I enjoy public speaking a lot, so I thought those skills would transfer over well, but it seems like talking to a camera is a whole different ballgame. I feel more comfortable every time I do it though, so I guess I just gotta get those reps in!💪

You're right about the gym analogy, I used to create more regularly and was very comfortable talking to a camera, I've since fallen out of practice and I'm a bumbling awkward anxious mess hahaha
