Maybe you should do a recommendation series for 2024 depending on budget in a series of separate videos.

$300, $500, $700, $1000, etc

I felt this was super out of touch with the average person getting into sim racing. No human should be spending this much money on something unless they are 100% confident they're going to be deep into the hobby, or budget isn't an issue.

Personally for anyone looking to 'get started' in 2024. Go onto marketplace, and pick up a used g27 or g29 rig for less than $150. Gives you time to confirm you enjoy and offers a bloody brilliant value for money proposition. Once you're stuck in, then you can think about spending $700+ on something you know you'll love if it's in your budget.

this whole sets you recomended is far beyond the 1000 dollar mark. No one is spending over 1000 dollars just to try out sim driving/racing

Note :- The title might suggest it but this video is not recommended for beginners who are unsure if sim racing is their hobby or not. This video felt super out of touch from reality of an average person thinking about starting sim racing. Get a second hand g29/g920 or other options in that price range and if your budget allows T300 rs Gt for PS5 as it will be far more cheaper and will give you a great entry point into sim racing. Also, some of my friends who compete on top levels still use g29 with upgraded load cell for brake pedals. Spending $1000 on a hobby you are not sure about isn't smart in any way.

$400 US is around $600 Canadian. This is $200 more than I spent for my entire initial setup.

The problem I have with most racing channels is that their ideas of 'budget' is mid to high tier for most people starting out.

This is a very niche scenario, but if you're gaming on Linux, the CSL DD has community drivers that work really well, I am currently using these drivers as I fully switched to Linux. I used my CSL DD on a dual booted Windows a few months ago so I can compare, and it feels exactly the same with community drivers on Linux. As far as direct drive wheels go, I think Moza doesn't really work under Linux so if that's your use case, consider going with the CSL DD.
ACC works well, I am having fun on LFM with it on Linux. AMS2 works great as well, so does rFactor 2. iRacing TECHNICALLY can work well, but the anticheat blocks the ability to play iRacing. I will be trying to reach out to the team as recently they switched to a new AC and for like a week it was possible to run iRacing on Linux but they patched something and now it kicks you as soon as you join a session.

Went from Fanatec gear to Simagic alpha mini and P1000 pedals. Best sim purchase I ever made.

I went with fanatec dd pro for gt7 and all in with fanatec shifter fanatec handbrake v3 padels and the csl p1 v2 wheel.

I'm really having a blast with this new hobby for me

I am just starting and today I ordered an Moza R12 base, a CS V2P wheel, CRP pedals and a stand for the set. I believe these are more than enough for a starter.

I've used the Moza HGP before, and it was nothing but issues. It would need constant re-calibrating due to going from neutral into 4th gear not working, and constantly losing it's place where shifting into 1st gear would put you in 3rd gear.
I heard that fanatec's shifter has the same issue.

Simagic' H-shifter, on the other hand, has worked perfectly fine since I got it. If you want a more reliable H-shifter that won't need constant fixing, go for that instead. Its more than double the price of Moza but 100% worth it.

Perfect timing, I just bought a cockpit and seat but haven’t bought any tech yet, I’m about to donate my G920 setup to a buddy and go direct drive/load cell. I have a NLR F-GT Elite 160 as it was on sale for the same price as a normal Elite

I'd say these options are still NOT ENTRY LEVEL IMO and NOT for those who want to start out with sim racing (this is so out-of-touch to an average) but rather just for those who have decided to drop themselves into the rabbit hole. Depending on where you are, these are NOT AFFORDABLE and not everyone have deep pockets for these options. A used G29 or T300 should suffice.

i have been sim racing for almost 5 years, my setup is like 600 eur (approx 650 $ us), while your "entry sim" is 1k. Totally out of touch.

a real entry level would be g29 or t300, maybe cammus c5, on a table, for at max 300$.
an upgrade would be csl DD ready2race pack (or moza equivalent) with an entry level wheel stand, a shifter and possibly a handbrake for around 600$ (and you can sell the previous steering wheel for 200$ approx).

I'm using csl DD ready2race (csl DD 5 / P1V2, 350$), a logitech shifter (with a usb adapter, 70$), a cheap wheel stand (vevor, 70$) and an old psvr1 vr headset (60$, if you have more money take a quest 2, if you have less stay with a screen).

I think its important to consider yes the simagic alpha mini is more expensive the the moza r9 or the fanatec csl DD, but it also is a more powerful base. The moza r9 has a peak of 9nm, the csl DD is 5 nm or 8 nm with the boost kit, but the simagic alpha mini is 10nm, and thats sustained torque not peak. For the price of $539 to get 10 nm sustained is a good deal. (Also their pedals are some of the best in the business too, you just review the p1000 pedals)
