JUST BUY A PROFILE RIG? - Playseat Trophy Sim Racing Cockpit Review

Today's video is sponsored by Micro Center!

The PlaySeat Trophy provides much more stability than a lightweight foldable cockpit (like the NLR GT Lite Pro) but maintains a smaller footprint than a complete aluminum profile cockpit. This makes the PlaySeat trophy an exciting option for your average lounge room or man-cave sim rig provided that it has the rigidity, adjustability, and expandability to meet your needs.

But are you better off just buying an Aluminum Profile Cockpit? Let's find out!

I got a black one almost 2 years ago, think it was pretty new back then. It has stood the test of time quite well, it still looks and drives like on day 1. Main reason i got it was because i wanted something sturdy for strong DD wheels, but also didn't have a dedicated place for a rig. So this thing is absolutely perfect for me, because it very light and fairly small while still being sturdy. So i have it standing somewhere in a corner, and then when i want to drive i just slide it over to my PC and get driving. Even after 2 years i am still very happy with this rig.

I bought this when the DD pro + came out coming from a playset trophy the wife made me keep in the closet. She actually said this one looks cool enough to keep in the living room. Best sim purchase I've made lol

the playseat trophy, the logitech DD wheel, pro pedals and shifter, paired with PSVR2 and GT7.
it's like a dream, i love it.

Ive mostly finished a diy wooden rig with adjustment, replaceable seat mounts, so you dont maim the frame. Wheel height and angle adjustment. A cool look. Addon functionality. Where i can slot new stuff for left/right shifter and brake stuff. Also a place for other addons up at wheel height. And a potential monitor stand.

I started with construction lumber. Then redid it with 3 sheets of 3/4 ply, cut on a cnc from my own design. It was cheaper because my cnc time was free, than a good entry level rig.

The process was awesome!

I bought a Trophy because it is hands down the best entry/mid level cockpit for me. Amazon delivered it next day, I didn't have to wait weeks, or months for some random dude to send me 8020 (which I would just buy locally and design myself) before rummaging through a junk yard for a WRX seat. The Trophy is perfect for what I needed. It's easy to move, easy to adjust, and insanely comfortable, imperceptible flex, and it looks fucking awesome in my game room. Logi G923 fit perfectly (I'm 5' 10"), and so does the Fanatec DD Pro I upgraded to.

If you're willing to drill holes in the frame, running cables through is fairly easy. A YT search will lead to how I did it on my Playseat Trophy.

I personally run this cockpit with my DD pro, took some engineering to mount my shifter, e brake and button boxes. But overall it's a great lightweight cockpit that is quite easy to slide around. It suits my needs well.

Had mine for several months, and it has been solid. Took a few tries to get my Fanatec DD 8nm wheel right where I wanted it, but now that I have, the cockpit is super comfortable. Zero flex from the cockpit and everything feels super sturdy. Highly recommended!

That title really gives a negative impression, while the actual review is actually rather positive. This is a stellar cockpit if you want to graduate from good old Playseat Challenge and don't have a space or budget for full size rig. Only a sim snob would consider this a bad cockpit.

What I don‘t see a lot being mentioned is the simple fact that it just looks beautiful and clean. Especially the logitech version

Mine is still perfect 😁 love it and about rigidity I love how it is because the force feedback transfers to the rest of the rig and the tubes act like a buttkicker and its directional too, when I hit a right curb I feel the curb on my right leg, feet and buttcheck

I use this rig with Simagic Alpha mini, manual shifter, e brake, p1000i hydraulic pedals with haptic, and Quest 3 in VR. In AMS2 it's so addicting

I purchased the Logitech edition a few months ago, along with the Logitech Pro Wheel & Pedal. Previously I was using a Wheel Stand Pro Deluxe with a G29. I game in my room so I need something with a small foot print. This was a huge improvement for me in terms of comfort, immersion, the adjustments. Assembly was relatively smooth so I have no complaints there. I do recall there being a number of Velcro pieces but to be honest I cant remember if they came with the Logitech Pro wheel & pedal or the Playseat. It is very light and can be easily moved around as needed, this is with the wheel and pedal on.

For those who may be worried about damaging/scratching the material of the cockpit, I recommend getting the mat that Playseat also sells. It's the perfect size for the Playseat and helps protect both the cockpit and tile/floor. It also helps to stop the cockpit from sliding around.

One thing to consider is, while you have many adjustments and they aren't hard to do, it will still become tiresome making them to suit other people. If you will be the only person using the cockpit, then you''re in the clear but if you have to share it with multiple people it will become a hassle.

As mentioned in the video, there will be some flex but it is minimal. You don't notice it while racing.

I’ve had mine for 6 months. I bought it because I was moving from my desk to a dedicated rig. I didn’t want a full 8020 rig, but wanted something more than a playseat challenge. This fit that sweet spot perfectly. I love it. I use it with a Logitech G29 that I’ve had for about 4 years. For my skill level it’s pretty much a perfect setup, but I do want to upgrade the wheel/pedals in the future.

I went with a tube frame GT Omega Titan due to the width and the ability to add wheels. It rolls right into a closet for easy storage once you remove the shifter. The seat is also easily adjustable for friends which is very valuable.

Bought a black one last month. I'm limited on space and needed something sturdy for the DD wheel. Highly recommend it to anyone.

I have had the rig for six months now and i would recommend it. I have a Logitech dd pro and pedals and apart from being very sturdy, you feel the FFB throughout the rig frame. Left, right, center, even the painted chevrons! And i use it with VR.

I have had mine (Black) for a little over a year now with no issues. It's paired with a Logitech G29 and PRO Racing Pedals

Bought a Titan cockpit from GT Omega myself and it's absolutely brilliant. Very rigid, nice-looking, a bit cheaper than the Playseat and requiring little space with the ability to move it around if need be. These kinds of cockpits are great for somewhat regular living and similar
rooms! Really love the setup, which I think perfectly hits the sweet spot of having an advanced rig without going full pro.

I've had this rig for 1, 5 years with a Fanatec GT DD Pro (8 nm) and the V3 pedals. It's very comfortable, and I'm very happy with it. Also have the shifter mount for use as a mouse tray. I don't seem to have really any flex on the length adjustment like there is on the video, maybe because I have it set to a shorter length. Also the V3 pedals have their own baseplate so no flex on the pedals either. The two things of concern with this rig are lack of quick adjustability if you want to have friends try it, and also the lack of a dedicated steering wheel base height adjustment. But if you can live with those, it's a great rig for sure! Highly recommended.
