For anyone starting, just get a used G27 or a new G29 on a good deal for peace of mind. Forget the best felling and the more realistic option, its more than enough to have massive amounts of fun and learn all you need. Most starters will usually stop racing after a week or two, as it's not as easy to go fast and clean as it may seem, and lots of practice is required. Put some hours on a couple of sims, then decide if you want to go a step above on quality

A good sim racing setup is definitely up there on my hypothetical “first toy to buy if I ever get rich” list alongside one of those real-life seamoths that can go down to like 200m below sea level.

For the first time wheel owners I say that the Logitech g29 is the only one I've ever had. I've had 3 or 4 of them over a decade but because I've never tried a direct drive I don't know what I'm missing. I have a great time with my g29 and it feels like driving to me. The force feedback is substantial enough to feel real and combined with a Playseat entry level seat and pedal mount set up and a PS4 or PS5 that is as close to real racing as I need. If money is no issue in the future I would spend $20, 000 and go crazy on it but there is no need to drool over other set ups. For a total of about $1, 300 you can have a really great time.

I think it's good to keep in mind that sim racing gear, at least the entry level stuff, always seems to get good black friday deals

From cheapest to more expensive:

1. Used Driving Force GT
2. Used G29/G290
3. Used T300 with pro pedals

Then it isn't that much budget anymore and starts to get expensive.

Just a little tip for UK and Aussie people. And anywhere else that have a cash converters. Which to anyone who doesnt know. Its a second hand store similar to a pawn shop but its a big company. Anyway. Buying second hand from them is a good option. They check the item before they buy it from someone so you know it works. And in the off chance it doesnt they have a really good returns reputation. But the good thing is they arent specialised in anything so they get in good stuff but sell it cheap since they have know clue what they have. Ive bought a t300rs Gt with clutch pedal. Boxed for 189 pound which if you try to buy it new its 360 pound. Ive seen a t500rs for 99. Fanatec wheel rims for 50. Its a something to think about

That Fanatec bundle for $400 is an insanely good deal. Thrustmaster is still selling the TS-PC racer wheel base alone for $400...

Got the t128 on sale at amazon. Have been super happy with it. It feels like the force is plenty to me. In dirt rally i was wishing it was weaker😂 but if you’re on a super budget and cant afford the other “entry level” options, id go for it. For me, $300-$500 for a gaming peripheral doesn’t make sense

One thing to remember is that as you move up in equipment you also start adding button boxes, then multi monitor setups and then you need a more powerful system to run it and the set up and additional needed software can complicate the overall system and rig.

I recommend someone new to start simple and honestly your best upgrade to see driving improvements and lap time consistency is the pedals not the wheelbase.
I will say probably 80%+ of all new sim racers can be well served using a wheelstand, a single 32"-34" monitor or maybe a 43" tv and with under a grand invested in their wheelbase, pedals and wheel.
Most new racers will come and go and not play to the extent long term they think they will and just pop in every so often for shorter spells racing then not race again sometimes for weeks or months.
Not to mention the AVERAGE racer will not have the skillsets to be racing at a level to ever be able to see that elusive .2 tenths of a second laptime to put them over the top when comparing racing with a $600 rig versus a $2500 rig.

Keep it simple and at a reasonable budget is the best answer for the majority of people sim racing on Saturday morning while still in their underwear!

I use a wheel stand, a non folding, stable stand that allows me to stand on the brake pedal and which has no visible movement in use. Unfortunately I don't have space for a full rig or triples, my rig is solid though, handles my direct drive wheelbase and 100kgs load cell brake pedal better than many full cockpits. There is some flex in the shifter mount but it's minimal and not enough to effect gate entry. Completely removing movement from your setup makes a big difference, more than the upgrade from belt to direct drive. I'd also recommend OLED display/s, their much faster response times make you feel like you're looking thru a windscreen not watching on a monitor. Another top tip is to use the lightest wheel that is suitable for your wheelbase, it's lower mass makes the most of your motors FFB output, giving a snappier more immediate feel than one with greater mass. Round wheels are better for all around car control, ask a rally driver 😉

I feel like in 2023, going into 2024, people should avoid getting a gear driven wheelbase, now that belt driven and even direct drive wheels are becoming more affordable, even more so in the future. What do you think though? I'm honestly just a beginner, just started getting into sim racing just recently

I got the Moza R5 from Amazon and i love it. I know R9 is stronger but $500 i spent has everything you need for a first time sim racer

all you should need is a high res encoder and a solid drive shaft connected to a even handle!

Only just found your channel - the videos sound and looks really, really good. Keep up the good work! Just one thing: including chapter raises the user experience a little. Looking forward to further videos :)

I bought Thrustmaster T248 because it was discounted this spring.
But then Fanatech cut the price of the CSL bundle, and Moza came out with an entry-level model for the same price as the T248.

I totally misstaked the time to buy a steering wheel controller.😢

Yo, I already have a simulator of my own, but I would love to see a review on the new Moza R3, Specially because you and SRG make good reviews with plenty of details❤😂

I had been interested in sim racing for a while but didnt want to put down $300-$500 on a setup, so i checked craigslist every now and then for a few months. One day i found a guy who was selling his G29 with pedals and the shofter for $120 plus $20 for a stand... Needless to say i jumped on that right away. The equipment all feels brand new, i dont kbow what he was thinking selling it so cheap but it worked out great for me

I would love to see a video on the Asetek SimSports La Prima Bundle, as it apparently has really good FFB and a game changing QR system.

I just picked up a Thrustmaster TMX for $80 and ordered the missing USB adapter off amazon for like $5. Was planning to build a rig and get a DD wheel, but this gets me racing now. Can and will upgrade later, but this is something.

I'm new to sum racing, so I wouldn't be able to say if you've missed anything. However, your review was very solid for those of us trying to understand the basics, as far as what to buy, what parts are compatible, what's affordable and what's popular. The review was concise, comprehensive and sensible. Not a lot of yapping about nothing, extending the video into a 30 minute video. I can appreciate that. Thanks
