I’m so glad you mentioned the diy route 👍! My first sim set up was a used G920, used Xbox one, an old 27in monitor I had around, a junkyard Porsche seat and a home made wood rig. All in it cost me around $300. I had so much fun with that set up I would recommend that route to anyone considering getting into sim racing. See if you like it and if you do then upgrade one thing at a time. I’m now over $5000 into it with a PC, VR, 23nm dd, high end pedals, 4 corner bass shakers, and aluminum profile rig. My first set up was probably like 80% as much fun as my current setup. You pay a lot more for just a little more fun and immersion.

Just bought a thrustmaster t300rs gt mostly playing on ps5.. I love it! Attached it to a small desk and it works great!

I am a beginner and have the exact set up. G29 with shifter and the GT Lite Pro and so happy with the fun i am getting. I use a headphone with VR thus i dont hear the grinding. With the VR, driving is very immersive

I just got into sim racing last September when I bought a 2nd hand g920 for 70 bucks from a pawn shop.
Then last month I found a guy on Facebook selling his csl dd bundle who was looking for cash plus a g920. He had hurt his back using the loadcell brakes and wanted to go back to what he was used to.
I gave him 300 bucks plus the g920 for his csl dd bundle which included the loadcell brake and f1 wheel. It was only 2 months old and still with all the boxes etc for around half the retail price.
There's great deals out there if you're prepared to be patient, i don't really have the best options where i live but if you're in a well populated area there will be lots of second hand gear for sale that is worth checking out if you're on a tight budget like myself.

Just a heads up for people that want to upgrade the fanatec dd from 5 to 8 Nm, the powersupply from fanatec itself cost around 150, but its just a powersupply with an extra wattage. You can build it yourself for a third of the cost of an original, and will work just aswell. You can also buy one from that well known cheap chinese website... If you want to build it youself, like i did, there are plenty of youtube video's on that.

If you have $500, and are looking to get into sim racing, the only thing I can say is stay away from Thrustmaster. They have terrible customer service, and they don't support their products AT ALL after they launch. They haven't released a single update for the T248 since it came out. The little screen on the wheel was also supposed to be updated to inlcude more games over time, that never happened. Just don't buy Thrustmaster. Even if you have to save a little longer to afford something else. You'll thank yourself in the long run. The T248 itself isn't a bad wheel, and the pedals are fantastic, you're just not getting anything but the wheel and pedals

Just set up my first sim racing system yesterday - playseat challenge and a Moza R3 bundle + the brake pedal upgrade kit. Two purchases and only just over £600, spread out over 3 months interest-free.

Luckily my Lenovo thinkstation I bought 4 years ago to do CAD is surprisingly capable for the job and entirely suitable for a newbie like me who doesn’t know where he may be wasting money on a gaming PC.

It all worked straight out of the box on AMS2 and feels much higher quality than I expected I could ever afford.

I did diy. I already had monitor/pc/desk. I started with just getting a used logitech g920 for $200 on ebay and clamping to desk while using a kitchen chair at my desk. Then I did an upgrade. I wound up using a couple pallets I found on marketplace for free. Got a box of screws, cut them up to needed sizes and put it together. One of my friends got new race seat for his car and was getting rid of his old stock seats and gave me one (he was just gonna trash them but they were in good condition). Bolted that to my pallet wood and had a mounted seat, and yes it has the rails so it can slide forward for shorter people. Last thing I did was to go to harbor freight and got 4 swivel casters. Lets me easily roll it up to desk for use and roll away when not needed. All in was less than $300 excluding pc/screen.

The moza r5 is a great starter kit “but” if you wanna upgrade to such as the moza r9 or the r12 later the srp lite pedals will not work, your better off with the moza r9 then the r5 as the starter kit

Just today I purchased the Playseat Challenge X (new) and Logitech G923 (manufacturer refurbished) w/ shifter (new) for under $600 which will pair with my existing Xbox One. I also picked up a used copy of Forza Motorsport 7 for $35. Looking forward to getting into the hobby with my first setup.

I hate how the csl dd is so overpriced on the used market here. The ready to race bundle with base, rim and pedals costs new 399€, and people are trying to sell just their bases at over 300€ used. Thats stupid...

I’m on my 3rd wheelbase, a CSL DD, I wish I had this many options when I first started sim racing, but the DFGT treated me really well on NR2003 back in the day!

If you want cheap fanatec, the security chip for PlayStation is in the wheel, while the Xbox chipset is in the base so if you get a PlayStation wheel and Xbox wheelbase you can play on Xbox, PlayStation, and pc

Why not recommend the T300 RS GT instead of the G29, to me it doesn't make sense since they can be found often for similar prices
