The new scene was really to set up the sequel for new viewers; everyone who watched the original when it came out naturally assumed the RDA would be back one day. 🙂 But I agree that it frames Jake's future mindfulness of their return.

I think that scene is not as horrible as some people say because basically nothing important changes. We know that the RDA is going to come back because we know that there are going to be 4 sequels, but a person who doesn't know anything and sees the movie for the first time and doesn't wait for the re-release end credits and walks out, probably will think: "Ok, they may or may not come back, maybe the RDA goes bankrupt, so they won't come back... the end of the movie by itself is perfect."

Yeah, given what is known of Earth and how badly unobtainium is needed to sustain the planet, it does make perfect sense that they wouldn't just give up, and Parker Selfridge would know it. However, it is a very weird shift how it goes back to the original narration of Jake saying ''the time of Great Sorrow was ending.'' Maybe he was trying to convince himself they'd be okay. But it kinda makes it look like letting the toruk go was a really bad call if the fighting isn't done

I don't like the change, Parker Selfridge was not so confrontational earlier in the movie, it makes his character inconsistent.
