Many Americans do this and always throw around the 'brother, sister' appellation. I find it overly familiar and really inappropriate. I am an atheist and from Australia and I do not use the bro, brother or sister shtick at all, mate is what I use, probably just as bad but less familiar and just a good way of being somewhat familiar but not overly so.

We can't all be kith in this time when so few of us walk the lands?

I disagree due to the tale of Ragnorok, it says Brothers and sisters will fight each other. This saying that, which indicates that's humanity will fight each other in chaos. Also if you look at the gods and goddess they can be referred as Mother, Father, Brother, and Sister, leading to ancestors followed by the coming of humans, in that case humanity are all intertwined as that. So yes I could say brother or bro relating to you.
