I find myself revisiting that moment he shares with Frodo in the mines. When Frodo says how hard the times are - his wisdom there is so poignant. And his description of death to Pippin is honestly so comforting. I hope it’s like that in the end.

I defintely think that the scene where the riders retreat from Osgiliath with the Nazgul in pursuit...when Gandalf rides out of Minas Tirith and wards off the Nazgul so the riders can make it to the city is one of the best Gandalf scenes and should be on this list.

i remember that when i was a boy and watched frodo and gandalf leave for the undying lands actually shed a tear. the only move that has made me cry.

Sir Ian is so good at playing Gandalf. He isn't a wizard in real life but he imagines what it would be like to be a wizard and then pretends to be a wizard in the film. He knows what to say because somebody wrote the words down on a script and he knows where to stand because somebody told him. But the amazing thing is he learned the words, which is why you don't see him carrying a script in these clips.

The balrog scene is beyond epic. Made even better when gandalf says "run you fools" then let's go. A wizard doesn't get much cooler than that.
