The national anthem of Greece

About the anthem:
The "Hymn to Liberty", or "Hymn to Freedom" is a poem written by Dionysios Solomos in 1823 that consists of 158 stanzas and is used as the national anthem of Greece and Cyprus. It was set to music by Nikolaos Chalikiopoulos Mantzaros in 1865 and is the longest national anthem in the world by length of text.

About the composers:
Dionysios Solomos (1798 – 1857) was a Greek poet from Zakynthos, who is considered to be Greece's national poet. He is best known for writing the Hymn to Liberty.
Nikolaos Chalikiopoulos Mantzaros (1795 – 1872) was a Greek-Italian composer born in Corfu. His most popular composition remains the musical setting for the poem of Dionysios Solomos' Ýmnos eis tīn Eleutherían (Hymn to Liberty).

Some notes about the video:
The first two stanzas are usually played as the official anthem of Greece.
This version includes the first two stanzas and more.
Also, the full version of this anthem can last up to 50 minutes.

In all these years growing up as a Greek American, I had never heard the entire National Anthem. It really shows the depth of the revolution and the freedom the Greeks were fighting for to create a new nation.

Bedeutungsvoller Inhalt, schöner Klang. Ich höre mir auch immer wieder auch den Inhalt / Text dieser Hymne an, damit ich verstehe, wie mein Nachbar, Griechenland fühlt. Nur über die Sprache kann man auch die Gedanken seines Gegenübers richtig verstehen.
