Το ποίημα γράφτηκε από τον Διονύσιο Σολωμό τον Μάιο του 1823 στη Ζάκυνθο και έναν χρόνο αργότερα τυπώθηκε στο Μεσολόγγι. Οι στροφές που χρησιμοποιούνται είναι τετράστιχες, ενώ στους στίχους παρατηρείται εναλλαγή τροχαϊκών οκτασύλλαβων και επτασύλλαβων.
Σε αυτό το βίντεο, παρουσιάζεται το πρώτο ολοκληρομένο κομμάτι του Εθνικού μας ύμνου, και όχι μόνο οι δύο πρώτες στροφές.
Inspired by the Greek War of Independence, Solomos wrote the hymn to honour the struggle of Greeks for independence after centuries of Ottoman rule.
In this video, the entire first part of the Greek national anthem is performed, instead of the 2 first verses that is used in various events.
Greece is in crisis. Corrupt politicians who have no sympathy for the people or the nation itself, are trying to sell the one and only Macedonia to a small Former Yugoslav state with no history, language and culture whatsoever, without even asking the Greek people. But the people will not allow this. No dictator ever had a good ending, nor will our current one. The homeland and birthplace of Alexander The Great, son of Philip II is not for sale and will never be. I dedicate this video to us Greeks to remind us that no politician or any kind of head of state can sell our pride and homeland, and this will not be tolerated. Greeks do not fight like Heroes, Heroes fight like Greeks, and we've been through those times many times throughout history. But in the end we will stand strong as we once were. Macedonia is Hellas. Hellas is Macedonia. Today we fight for our land, our legacy, our ancestors and mostly for our values. Today we are all united. Χαίρε, ω χαίρε, Ελευθεριά!
