The UK women dealing with a cost of living crisis

As the UK economy is crippled by inflation and soaring food and fuel prices, women are bearing the brunt of the cost of living crisis.

But why is this?

Research has found women earn less, have less wealth, are more likely to be in debt and are buying more of the things that cost more because of inflation.

Experts describe women as the ‘shock absorbers’ of poverty, they are often primary caregivers, unable to work longer hours due to expensive childcare fees - going without for the sake of their family.

Channel 4 News follows a single mum, a woman working in the care sector, and a the founder of a charity supporting women of colour. They are all confronted with deepening inequality and an uncertain future.

People running these charities and food banks are the real heroes of our age.

It is very hard to live in the UK on one income per household no matter if you are male or female.

Single people find it hard too. It’s not easy having a lot of roommates

I'm a single woman in Ireland housesharing. I was paying the same for a single room as my friends(that are a couple) are paying for a mortgage together on a house. I was house sharing with 3 other people. The housemates ages were 50, 46, 32 and 30. None of us wanted to houseshare.

It’s okay. King Charles will have his multimillion pound coronation. No poverty here.

As a divorced father with 50:50 childcare I feel it as much as any of my female friends. Why do we have to seek out diversity or inclusivity issues within an issue that’s already a nightmare

It's hard for everyone not just single mothers... what about single people with no kids???? No government department is responsible for housing you...at least single mothers have to be housed by law.... I'm a single woman working every shift I can... only to see most of it go on private sector rental!!!! No subsidised housing for me!!Lots of my colleagues are working full time and having to flat share, some are in their forties! It's hard for everyone.

I have found the cost of utility bills crippling and trying to run a car. The government should be doing more to help people. The other issue is that prices will never fall, so we are all waiting for wages to catch up.

Where are the men responsible for the children they helped create?

Why aren’t these men that fathered these kids and are not contributing being forced to help pay for them? I have new understood why the UK has never made them financially accountable for their responsibilities. It’s always left to the mothers and tax payers to foot the bill.

Inflation hits people a lot harder than a crashing stock or housing market as it directly affects people's cost of living that people immediately feel the impact of. It's not surprising negative market sentiment is so high now. We really need help to survive in this Economy.
