Good content - I prefer flash drives for portability only, for speed and lots of data storage - m.2/nvme type drive with enclosure are the way to go.

I think I will grab one. I sort of regret not buying a larger capacity M.2 in the second slot on my MB. And have since learned that it’s probably not a great idea to fill up all sorts of PCIe lanes with drives. So what I’d like to do is swap out the 1 TB drive for maybe a 4 TB drive in the desktop. Then put that smaller drive in this enclosure. Then use it for fast portable backup of documents 🤷‍♂️

Would the NVME enclosure work/be beneficial if you were installing a new macos on an old macbook? Or would a thumb drive be the better option?

I highly recommend a simple home file server it's the easiest way to move and store files. I use an old Intel NUC with Linux installed its connected to my gigabit network. You could also use an old Mac Mini Or MacBook just as easily.

Yeah but right now these enclosures cost more than a 128GB SATA SSD.
