informational, to the point, and doesn't spend 10 minutes with just filler. we need more content creators like this, keep up the good work :-)

Even worse, the device that looks like a USB Flash Drive could be a USB killer: instead of memory chips, it charges up a bunch of capacitors, which then discharge 100+V down the data pins.

Liron's a genius and he's making me look so tech savvy to my kids and grandkids and also saving me from utterly stupid mistakes.Keep them coming sir!

Why would someone even pick-up a flash drive that was just lying around somewhere, let alone plug it in to their own pc or a their company's pc?? Yikes! Common sense rules here.

No Way more people picked them up and used them than I wouldn’t have thought!

The cyber security department does this where I work. They leave USB devices in random places that report back to their servers if they are plugged into desktop PCs. Then you get an e-mail from them (and I'm sure your manager does too).

Couple of years ago i remember reading about a guy finding a usb and while at work plugged it into the company computer he was using. The whole network was crippled for days, not sure what happened to the guy but any guesses.

This is some of the best advice I've got on computers. Thanks

Many people are nicer than you think and are trying to see if somehow they can identify something on the drive so they can return it. Just as some folks want to do the opposite (and most folks, good and bad, are just not very tech savvy).

Thanks Liron for re-inforcing my paranoia. I have what I call a test notebook for looking at found digital items. An old notebook reformatted to run Linux is great.

I hope that the website you created that these drives connected to told the user in big red bold font that they are being taught a lesson in what NOT to do with strange USB drives.
Something like "What you just did with this strange thumb drive was really STUPID"! etc, etc, etc.

Years ago while I was walking through an exclusive area downtown, I picked up a cheap flash drive off the sidewalk and took it home. I have a sandbox computer that I use to scan stuff and found a trojan cleverly embedded on the drive. Yep! Ever since then, if I saw one, I'd probably just walk on by.

Thanks for this strait to the point video. Myself would look at the contents & examine the file on a stand alone pc that i can re-image but would not expect that to happen with someone who just uses a pc. We need more education like this.

At first I thought it was about those usb killer things that can fry your computer, but thanks for the advice

It blows my mind people still use Windows. That said, USB sticks can be built to do electrical damage so no one should plug in random USB devices.

That's is why these few things are advisable.
1. Never pick up a USB stick you find lying around. Most are rubber ducky and malicious usbs.
2. Always work with a guest account or local user account on your on your windows PC.
never use your windows Admin account directly.
If the computer had a passworded Admin account, the PC would have prompted for Admin password and at that point, the USB would find it difficult to bypass, however, it is not full proof as some Payload can quickly run some wordlist to get the password, but if the password is uncommon, it likely won't bypass that Admin and get stuck, unless you type the password in yourself. Lol
3. Always stay aware of recent security stuff.

Thanks Liron, I hope people learn from this.

I dropped a USB drive years ago. Someone found it, plugged it in their pc and found a name of a friend of a friend, through the grapevine I was notified where I could go to get it back. The whole process took about a month.

When usually this happens on a running machine, wouldn't a "type the code you can see on screen to authorize the device" fix this security issue?

Curiosity is a hell of a thing.
Terry Pratchett once wrote, “Some humans would do anything to see if it was possible to do it. If you put a large switch in some cave somewhere, with a sign on it saying 'End-of-the-World Switch. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH', the paint wouldn't even have time to dry.”
I think we are just hardwired to push that big red button. Just to see what happens.

Being in the technology field, I figured 10 out of the 15 would be used. The average person isn't as tech savvy as you might think.
