People with Prosopagnosia are commonly referred to as being "face blind" or suffering from "face blindness."

But what does that even mean? And what do people who have this condition actually see (if they're face blind).

Find out everything you ever wanted to know about Prosopagnosia (and so much more) -- including what "Prosopagnosiacs" ACTUALLY see, how our brains differentiate between different human faces (facial recognition) and the areas of the brain damaged in someone who has this condition. Personally, I think this video is AWESOME! But I'll let you watch it and let me know yourself ;) can't hear what you guys think!

Happy Viewing!

Very interesting. I have some level of Prosopagnosia. At school I tended to recognise people by things like how tall they were, their hairstyle and what clothes they were wearing, the build of their bodies or if they wore glasses. I could recognise faces with more distinctive facial features such as a round or narrow face, there things like lots of freckles also helped, one friend had severe acne scars that made him distinctive.
Thinking about it retrospectively I wonder if I chose my friends because they had distinctive features.

I can usually recognise people I know very well, though on occasion I failed to recognise my father until he spoke. Actually my father probably had a level of prosopagnosia as I remember sometimes he failed to recognise me. I also find recognising people is quite context sensitive, if I usually see someone at work or at the pub then when I have met them out shopping I can know that I know them, but not where from.

Also I find it more easy to recognise females than males.

Is there any link to Dyslexia? Of my siblings and me, all three of us suffer with dyslexia and two of us have prosopagnosia. When you mentioned that the part of the brain responsible for reading was involved I just wondered because of the way that we mess up similar looking letters etc.

Great video
My dad was diagnosed with this by his ophthalmologist along with another condition that I believe starts with an H where he can sometimes recognize an object but not it’s function or what to do with it. They did a text on him where they showed him the “cookie jar” pic and all he saw was “chaos”. We are scheduled for an MRI next and first neurologist visit week. Any questions that I might want to ask would be greatly appreciated 🙏🏽

I have prosopagnosia. I can keep a face in memory for about 2-3 seconds if I look away. After that it's gone. I just don't remember it. I don't know if my facial recognition is broken or not, it's a difference without a meaning if I can't remember a face.

I have been told many times in my life that I'm definitely someone who looks outside the box. I've found solutions to problems that everybody else thought was pure genius. I think they were overreacting just a little because the idea never occurred to them, is all.

I recently learned that I have face blindness (Prosopagnosia). For me, it's like looking at a Chinese character.

I see it, I realize it's a word of some kind but it has no meaning to me. This means that for the most part, I do not recognize people when I look only at their face. Because of this, I have to memorize something different about them. I look for a defining feature, like a scar or their eyes, nose, or the way they speak and so on.

Something unique to them.

Because I look at things differently, compared to most people. Makes me wonder if this trait carries over into other areas of life and is the origin of a person that is an, "outside the box" thinker?

I didn’t realize I had this until I was in my 30s. I remember being about 7 and being terrified of my dad in a bus station because I had no idea who he was. My brain translated recognizing ppl into body language at a very young age. I recognize the body language of ppl. I have been doing it so long now that it’s kind of rare that I have to ask who someone is. There are some ppl that I never detect body language in and therefore never recognize them. The reason I didn’t recognize my own dad at the bus station? He had been released from prison earlier that day and still had his prison body language on, something that I had never seen before. So I had no idea who he was. Yeah, it’s weird. But strangely, not the weirdest thing wrong with me 🤪

I've had people take severe advantage of me, I had no idea I had this, mines severe, and on top of it I've been beaten, sold, raped, missing, mine goes as far as even my surroundings I could end up thinking I'm with my bf and actually can be someone else, my ex is in jail because he tried making me look like a prostitute, I thought I'd be with him but was a guy I'd be being sold to hadn't had a clue! I was missing too for awhile, this ruined my life because on these videos they make it sound so cute n dry ALOT MORE IS IN UT TRUST ME. And I was born with it but on top of it people have bullied me knowing I can't identify them so the people that know you can't identify them are very abusive typically they know they can get away with it, I mean when I was 13 I thought I was kissing my same age bf ends up the person was way older, because of this disease ice been a target over n over again for rape it sucks has made me not want to live not that I would hurt myself but it's def made it hard no one told me mine was that bad

The annoying LOUD beep was very loud and very annoying. This is as bad as effing doorbells or police sirens in videos. Don't do it.
