California Fire Coverage: Monday latest updates

Here's the latest information on the wildfires burning in Southern California.

California fires have wreaked havoc on Los Angeles as crews battled several massive blazes, including the Palisades Fire, Eaton Fire, Hurst Fire, Kenneth Fire, Sunset Fire, Lidia Fire and Woodley Fire. Areas impacted included the Pacific Palisades, Altadena, Pasadena, Sylmar, Encino, Brentwood, Santa Monica, Hollywood Hills, West Hills, Acton and parts of Ventura County.

My heart aches for everyone affected by this fire. The people in power who have made the decisions to enrich their own pockets instead of preparing these highly taxed people for safety should be jailed or put on death row!!! The United States Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management began mis-management of national forests, brushland and prairies in the mid-1970s. This included wildland fire defensible spaces. Livestock grazing to reduce fuel loading was reduced or eliminated. Managers allowed fire loads to increase from dead and down trees and brush. Perennial grasslands were replaced with annual grasses like cheatgrass and noxious weeds. The standard rule for firebreaks is 2X the height of the tallest vegetation but when the wildfire is running in the canopy and it’s preheating the vegetation because of slope, stand back and find a safety zone.
I have a BS in Range Management from Montana State University. I worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs for 31 years in natural resources. I was in wildland fire w/20 person Montana Indian Firefighter crews from 1987 - 2001. We went to several fires in Redding, Chico, Big Bear, Orange Co and San Juan Capistrano. Love and prayers to all that are fighting these fires and those who have been affected.

We are no stranger to natural disasters in Florida, but I’m so glad I love in a conservative state where our leadership actually knows how to run stuff and it’s not all about gender and face it’s about competency and ability to run a state. After even the worst hurricanes, Governor Ron DeSantis has things in order ready to go within hours of disaster striking there’s boots on the ground people getting the help. They need everything in place ready to go when something bad happens. Seems like these liberals in California really need to just sit down and pay attention to how conservative do things and start taking notes.
