Monday morning coverage of the wildfires burning in Southern California.

California fires have wreaked havoc on Los Angeles as crews battled several massive blazes, including the Palisades Fire, Eaton Fire, Hurst Fire, Kenneth Fire, Sunset Fire, Lidia Fire and Woodley Fire. Areas impacted included the Pacific Palisades, Altadena, Pasadena, Sylmar, Encino, Brentwood, Santa Monica, Hollywood Hills, West Hills, Acton and parts of Ventura County.

The water systems were never made to put out 70, 000 houses at a time. The winds are carrying flames in 100 mph winds. Im not sure people are understanding the magnitude of the fire event.

The absolute first thing that breaks down in a fire is communication. It's frustrating, but in a dynamic fire it is not possible to give people accurate information because of how fast things change. I'm not being insensitive, but people shouldn't expect to be told anything. People want concrete answers to questions like "When can we go home", but there are no answers because the flow of information has stopped. The speed of a fire is faster than the flow of information. It's not incompetence, its just what happens in a big fire. Every. Single. Time.
