Gas tax just doubled, property taxes up 30%... and people are leaving? Who'd a thunk it?!

I was born and raised on the southside of Chicago. Selling my house and getting out of Crook County, that's not a typo that's just what we locals call it.

I left Chicago in 1979, moved to a southern state and it was the best decision I ever made. I never looked back

The cost of living and corrupt politicians are just two of the many reasons why people are not just leaving Chicago, but Illinois as a whole.

I'm probably the only person I know who prefers the cold over the heat. Will probably be one thing I will miss when I eventually leave Illinois.

You missed the one real reason people are leaving. TAXES... We are taxed to the point where it is almost impossiable to live here and they are making up new taxes almost daily. Can't wait to escape.

As far as political corruption goes Illinois is on a whole other level! New Orleans, Boston, Los Angeles, etc politicians are amateurs when it compares to the corruption of Illinois politicians!

You forgot or you never lived in Chicago, “CORRUPTION, TAXES”. Politicians keep raising our taxes and the money never goes where it suppose to go.

You forgot that everything is being taxed in Chicago like crazy: sugary beverages, gas, cigarettes etc.

I live here. Property taxes, lack of affordable housing and low workers wages are killing the city.

I live in Chicago and have always felt safe. The shootings that make national headlines are mostly confine to several neighborhoods.

As a Chicago native and someone who just moved back from a different city. I can confirm this list to be accurate. And yet, Chicago maintains an undeniable charm about it

By the way, the term 'Windy City' is in no way related to the strong winds that blow off Lake Michigan. The term derives from long winded Chicago politicians in the late 19th century.

Left the city of Chicago and the state of IL 6 months ago. I do not regret a second of it.

John Hughes. The director who brought out movies like Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Home Alone, and Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is from Chicago. Some of the best shots of Chicago from those movies.

I live in Chicago. I'm also currently house hunting in middle Tennessee. We're leaving primarily because of the whole over-taxed situation and the property tax increases specifically. I will miss the city greatly.

Ive been in chicago 2 years as a trombone player. My review is, lots of diverse music, live music all the time, too many traffic cameras, and expensive to live but manageable if u get a good job
