Jan 2021 - I ended up buying an i9-10850K from MC for $399. No Zen 3 CPUs were available, so this was my best choice. I had talked myself into going with the i5-10600K to save a few bucks, but it wasn't available either. I'm lovin' the 10850K! No issues with heat. I thought the Noctua fan was broken (DOA) until I ran CPU_Z stress test and saw the fan spin up. I moved up from a Nov 2015 build with an i7-4780K.

Hold on, I just check the prices of the CPU. R9 5950x is priced at $899 while the i9-10900k is priced at $519. And since I use my pc for gaming only with my 3080, I play in 4k and they had the same fps... so in my case, intel won. I know those games were GPU bound, but the price difference isn’t worth it. I guess if you use your pc for work then sure, but come on, 90% of people that watches these videos are gamers.

Intel will take the lead in gaming and single core with i9 11900K (8 cores 16 threads) but then Zen 3 is already super good enough for gaming and will have a huge core count advantage. Not sure, how Intel will tackle the situation.

an interesting comparison, if the 5950X was a a little cheaper would be a perfect competitor, I want to see how it would compare a 5900H or 5980HX laptop with 10980HK or the fastest of 11 gen when available.

Interesting to see what both teams offer at their highest ends, though it does fee a little bit unfair comparing two CPUs with such different pricing. Zen 3 is making big gains in the single core performance, and I hope that translates to laptop CPUs too. Looking forward to reviews of 3080m and 3070m laptops next week!

As a proud 5950X owner I can say with no ego it is the best processor I have ever owned. And if you slap in 4 sticks of 3600Mhz CL14 tuned with DRAM calculator, you can squeeze even more performance out of it

We should rejoice whenever the leading company gets beaten by the challenger, and when the leadership keeps switching.
