Absolutely tomato-tastic! Pom-adorable (ok, I'll stop). I think this type of communal activity would only serve to benefit the community cohesion; and you get passata for the rest of winter! We don't have this in the uk? Do we? Perhaps scrumping apples in somerset?

Well now I know what the Italian families were doing in their garage and driveways when I lived in Toronto. It looked like so much fun, I wanted to volunteer to help. I'm going to have to try this myself. Thanks Pasta Grannies!

This brings back such fond memories. I'm Italian but living abroad and I remember going back home for the summer and making fresh sauce for the winter. At the end of the day my aunt would bring fresh pasta she had made earlier to cook it and try the freshly made sauce!!! L'italia é il paese del cibo buono e della dolce vita!

I’m an American but my grandfather was from Italy. This video brought me back to my childhood! Every summer we’d put bushels and bushels of tomatoes through the food mill to have passata all winter long, and then my mom would can! So much fun and so much work!

They bought a TRUCKLOAD of tomatoes, and made "enough tomato sauce to last them most of the winter" ... These are my kind of people 🤣

Can't believe some people don't realize that vine ripened tomatoes picked at the optimum time of ripeness that you grow yourself without pesticides or other chemicals (or that you buy from a local organic producer). and that you can without additives are going to not only taste better but are better for you. That's not to mention how much this builds community and family cohesiveness.

That's it.  I'm moving to Italy where I hope to find a family to adopt me so I can join in on traditions such as these. LOL

Damn, this brings back memories. I used to join my parents during passata's making sessions, like the kids in the video. Messy work but totally worth it.

Great videos! I love your channel, and this video in particular reminds me all the times I saw my parents and my family gathering together to prepare the tomato 'passata'. They were all waking up at 5am, to collect the fresh tomatoes, than they were boiling them, and my task was to fill the bottles and close them. Every bottle should have two leaves of basil, so they'd be more tasty. I do not live in Italy anymore, but my parents are still preparing it every year, and I do not miss any chance of having some passata to bring with me to Switzerland when I go visiting them.

Making it at home.. in batches as the Tomatoes ripen.. phew its a lot of work but what a great feeling to have the harvests and then have some stored. Now, that is one brilliant community activity - everyone sharing the work so that they can enjoy the family Passata over the Winter months. They are looking so happy too, lovely video.

As someone with 100% German heritage, we make our own sausage and sauerkraut together much like this. I think I'll add this to the mix. ♥️

My family did this every summer!! My mom still does but on a smaller scale these days

But, we grew our own tomatoes. There truly isn’t anything like it.
