Did you know that Alaska, the northernmost and largest state in the United States, could have been a part of Liechtenstein?
In this video, we delve into the intriguing tale of Alaska's origins. Once a territory of the Russian Empire, Alaska found itself up for grabs during the Crimean War. Facing economic strain, Russia sought to offload the vast expanse of land, leading to an unexpected twist in the story. Discover how Liechtenstein, a country smaller than Brooklyn, New York, was on the verge of acquiring Alaska. Imagine the implications of this unlikely union! But fate had other plans, as Liechtenstein made a last-minute decision that altered the course of history. Learn about the pivotal moment in 1867 when the United States stepped in and purchased Alaska from Russia for a mere 7.2 million dollars. Adjusted for inflation, this bargain deal equates to 125 million dollars today. A steal for such a colossal territory! But the story doesn't end there. Dive deeper into Alaska's rich history and uncover the golden legacy left behind by the Klondike Gold Rush. With over 900 tons of gold mined, Alaska's newfound wealth soared to unimaginable heights, dwarfing the initial purchase price by a staggering 288 times. 😱

Liechtenstein missed its chance to become 11, 000 times bigger, what could have been the biggest and fastest growth in history lol 😳😳😂😂

Wonder how a small country could defend such a big land like Alaska

It blows my mind how cheap land is, compared to a small humble apartment we live today.

Russia still regrets this decision, because if they kept it it would've been a very strategic and important location today.
Also, if they didn't sell it they wouldn't've needed Cuba. (history addicts know what I'm talking about)

Oh and now putin has been trying to say the selling of alaska was illegal and thus alaska is still part of russia.

I’m one of the 40, 000 citizens of Liechtenstein. By car you can drive across the whole country in 20min. The landscape is actually quite similar, just not as cold as in Alska. Despite being in the Alpine region, the climate is so mild that the Prince of Liechtenstein can grow wine.

While Alaska is one of the least populated states, it has 20x as many people as Liechtenstein, so Alaska would dwarf Liechtenstein in size and population, making it more like an independent Alaska owning a tiny bit of land in Europe

I’m pretty sure most Americans don’t know that Liechtenstein even exists😂

With inflation and corporate abuse these days, it won't be long before $125 mil won't rent you a dilapidated apartment in Anchorage.

Alaska is in fact the NORTHERN most, WESTERN most, and EASTERNMOST state in the United States.

Another fun fact: during winter Alaska and the body of water between it and Russia freeze. Meaning you can walk to Russia from Alaska in the winter
