Russia sold Alaska because of the gold and oil on the peninsula. From what I learned, the reason why Russia sold Alaska to US was because Russia was at war with UK and Canada was UK's territory. They don't want UK to invade the whole Russia so the only way to do it was to sell Alaska which they know Alaska was a valuable territory. But they have no other choice bc they are losing the war

I remember the Disney series Cory in the House where Cory accidentally gave the Russians the deed to Alaska on Air Force One. He was able to get it back however after a dancing contest 😂

Fun fact, the money for alaska never reached russian coasts, as the US loaded up the payments on a ship that was supposed to deliver the gold but it sunk :)
