Thank you for this !! As a new grad NICU nurse — i’ve only tried iv’s twice. Both times i got flashback but both got blown. I’m so glad I have seasoned nurses on my unit to help me out...I still have a long way to go

I love that you say grab two catheters, whenever I am asked to come start and IV I say I need 2 don't open the second I just need to be able to see it!!

Doesn’t the 10 ml syringe have less pressure than a 3 ml syringe?

Is ultrasound typically not used for IV insertion in the NICU? Just curious.

It is such a shame the camera didn't capture everything, like the actual insertion of the iv into the orange.

One thing I see a lot is the complete advancement of the needle. This will increase the likelihood of blowing the vein. The needle serves as the conduit for the catheter, it should not go farther than necessary.

Question 1)When putting scalp iv, do you shave the scalp? I'm from a developing country. Here they teach to shave the scalp first.
Question 2) What about a very hairy baby?
