Former England manager Gareth Southgate has told Sky News he has no regrets after quitting.

Southgate stepped down after England lost the Euro final to Spain 2-1 in July.

The 54-year-old had been in charge of the national side since 2016 and had led his country to the finals of two major tournaments.

Speaking to Sky News, Southgate said he had an "incredible eight-year journey with the team" and that it had been "an absolute privilege" to manage his country.

Southgate cost us. All knowledgeable fans knew he can't coach; it's just our players masked his inability. Carsley already has us looking infinitely more dangerous.

Southgate acting like he has an abundant amount of clubs rushing to get his signature. He’ll most likely be working behind the scenes in football than in it

Should have gone years ago. I doubt any top club will be interested in him. Football has moved on. He wont get away with playing Maguire in domestic leagues.

thanks gareth and i can understand that hungary loss made you scared and shocked and prevented you from using attacking tactics but in finals you should have used if possible you shoud have dropped foden and kane or any one of them and your selection choices were horrible too no ward prowse no madders no burn no sterling no rash no ben white no grealish etc and also you didn't used bowen gordon trent perfectly like they were used in premier league.
but once again thanks gareth i wish you comeback for one last time for 2026 wc lets bless lee carsley for goodness.
