Many individuals think that wealth, success, luxurious houses, and expensive cars are the secret ingredients to happiness. However, this couldn't be further from the truth. Have you ever wondered why some rich celebrities, despite their material possessions, still experience extreme unhappiness, to the point where they take their own lives? It's because materialistic possessions don't bring genuine happiness.

The longer you hold onto the belief that these external markers will bring you happiness, the worse you'll feel about yourself during the years of your pursuit. You'll be stuck in a state of sadness and unfulfillment, only to realize that these achievements don't guarantee happiness once you attain them.

The second common mistake is relying on positive external events to make you happy, often neglecting the fact that for every positive event, five negative ones follow. Consider the past 24, 48, or 72 hours of your life – how many moments of true bliss, joy, and peace did you experience? Probably not too many.

So, how can you break free from this cycle and become genuinely happy? It starts with dropping your expectations. When you hold expectations in various areas of your life, and those expectations aren't met, you're left with anger, resentment, and internal turmoil.

Let me share a quick story about a pizza order. The same pizza delivered in two scenarios – one where I expected it in 25 minutes and another where they told me 40 minutes but delivered in 35. The only difference was my expectations, and the impact on my mental state was significant.

Where in your life do you hold expectations for how others should behave or what you should accomplish? Recognizing these expectations is the first step to freeing yourself from mental suffering.

The second key secret is silencing your thinking mind and becoming more present in the moment. Think back to the five happiest memories in your life. You'll quickly notice that during those moments, your thinking mind wasn't overly active. Silence your mind, and you'll find peace, joy, and happiness.

With this newfound awareness, you now know the root causes of your suffering: expectations and an overstimulated thinking mind. Practice catching yourself in these moments, and you'll realize that anxiety, stress, fears, and doubts are all products of these two sources.
