In my last role, I had a meeting about a pay rise, laid out all my reasons etc... and got the "your work has not been up to standard lately, If you work hard on improving we will review in 6 months" BS.
I found a new job within a week or so and suddenly he was asking me if I would stay if they gave me more

My response would have been

"You had your opportunity to restructure my role and reassess my pay 2 weeks ago when I politely enquired about it.

Instead you responded with evasion and unsupportable threats of disciplinary action.

As such, I have taken matters into my own hands and sought employment with a company that values its staff, pays them properly, and acknowledges its errors.

Regards"

Amazes me how bosses think you won't leave if they treat you bad and when you do they panic. Bad management.

"I would like a raise."
"No"
"Here is my two weeks notice then."
"We can give you a pay increase."
"Good, I'll take it for the next two weeks."

At my last job the only times I was ever offered a pay increase was both times I gave my notice. I have since moved to the head office of the company and we get annual raises like clockwork...no arguing, no asking, no begging, no bullshit game.

These bosses know its literally illegal to punish or bar ppl from discussing their pay with coworkers. Then threaten disciplinary actions for it!?
Yet still try saying per "our company handbook" like a "handbook" is God's word and bigger than federal law lmao 😂

After supporting, tutoring and pulling the project out of the fire over and over again for 7 months, I found I was the second lowest paid with some of the people I was tutoring making over 2 times what I was being paid. Even the guy who admitted he knew almost nothing was getting over 1.5 times as much. You can bet that my morale went down the tubes. Then, pretty much my last hours on the contract, I was fixing what the other person making over twice my rate had broken and never fixed in a tool I had written.

During my yearly review, I would always say that my future work performance would be commensurate with my compensation. Being extremely experienced and with highly desired degrees, made me an attractive target for other employers (internal & external).
Some called my bluff and had to replace me with less capable people, but it never negatively affected me for very long.

He's lucky that all she did was resign. She could have gone after the company with a lawsuit for threatening her for discussing pay or he could have been hauled up for his own disciplinary for mismanagement and losing a top performer.

I’ve been in that position, hadn’t resigned, I just told them that I they might hear from someone as I was undergoing an enhanced vetting. Within two hours my department was apologising for not sorting something sooner and wanted to know what the offer was. He doubled the pay rise from the offer and I stayed.

Boss knows she is a valuable asset to the team

You can’t be disciplined for discussing salary as under the equality act you cannot enforce it (in the UK)

I'm the same way. When I'm done, I'm done!!!! Nothing you say or do will change my mind after the fact.

I bet the person dealing with this went through the same thing. All the wise people leave, and it becomes a toxic workplace due to thos behaviour becoming familiar. So bad.

Hay please do full length vids as some people enjoy listening to these while doing other stuff please.

At that point, there’s nothing left to talk about!

She should've replied that she's handing her notice in as per the staff handbook given Mr. Disciplinary's stickler for the rules stance.

I would 1000% send that entire email chain to the Head of HR, the CFO and CEO in the way out.

Glad it is in writing to show to future employers, if necessary.

The retaliation for quitting and forcing them to offer a pay rise would be worse than leaving!

You just know they would be annoyed they had to give in and would take it out on the employee if they had stayed!
