Diving into Bowie is life changing. No other artist comes close. Lyrically he is a master and his ability to choose the perfect musicians to see his vision through is un matched. He brought change in the industry and had so many great bands that were inspired by him. While the entire decade of the 70s saw 11 albums that were all different all inspired, some of his later work has proven to be my favorite, especially his Swan Song, Blackstar. Thank u for this and thanks to whoever requested. Not your typical hit that most reactors do but a stunning example off Hunky Dory.

One of my favorites and it's almost impossible to narrow it down, .

Bowie was probably the one person who found a way out of drugs and mental illness that was so entrenched in his family history.. He was actually one of the most entertaining, generous, capricious and self deprecating-people as he grew into his self acknowledgement I believe! He will always be my favorite musician always and travel world wide to have experiences to appreciate that! I know he wasn’t a prophet or a Stone Age man but he still was someone who was intriguing in all the right ways to me! Thanks for the react!

Ozzy's "Mister Crowley" is referring to the same Crowley. Bowie got deeply into the occult in the '70s but found no satisfying answers in it and ultimately rejected it.

Bowie was a fountain of knowledge and great songs with amazing lyrics and music.
There’s ‘music’ and then there’s Bowie!

Excellent reaction, good exploration of very dense and mysterious lyrics. I believe Bowie is second only to The Beatles for influence on music and culture. Bowie dabbled in multiple religions and occult magick in his earlier years, but jettisoned them off as fast as his own personas. Every Bowie album in the 70s is a classic gem, you’ve a great road ahead!

This song is about acceptance that having faith isn't the same thing as truly knowing what comes after death until you're dead, and realizing philosophy is pointless to push on others. The quicksand is the fear of dying that everyone finds themselves having. It came from his 1971 album Hunky Dory, a few months before he started developing his signature Ziggy Stardust character for the following album.

Bowie was very into occultism and world philosophies like Buddhism and Judaism and Satanism at the time, not sure of where he had fitted into things. This song was like he was letting go in his early 20s.

He played this live in 2004 when I saw him on the "Reality" tour. Amazing concert.

Rick Wakeman on a very tasty piano. Rick was (and is now back) with the band Yes. Very good reading of the song!

Great review I hadn’t heard of Genius before I’ve just looked it up and something hit me, I’ve been a Bowie fan since early 1972 i remember buying this album and loving this song but as a 15/16 year old in 72 I had no idea what any of the lyrics meant I may as well have been listening to Slade Cum On Feel The Noize. Bowie was a genius as you grew older you understood more but you could just like the songs as songs as a kid

Station to Station. Recoded almost immediately after filming The Man Who Fell to Earth in the autumn of ‘75 and when he was at the height of his cocaine psychosis/addiction.

Bowie has so many great album's and he may be simple on the surface, but is very complex when you dig deeper.

I like songs that make me think deeper. And researching things that appear in the lyrics that I don't understand is fun too. "Detritus, open up my mind" is a line from the Spiritbox song "Rule of Nines". I had no idea what Detritus means until I consulted Wikipedia.
A request/suggestion for a review is "Shake My Head" by David Gogo from the album 17 Vultures.

A classic from a classic album. You’d go a long way to find a sequence of songs as good as the first side of Hunky Dory. Maybe the 2nd of Ziggy, or the first of Low.

Oh yeah, I like this song too. For me Space Odditty and this are the same level! Wow like you ré reaction very much. Noone ever here in the internet are reacting in such detail. I know this song about 50 years now...I have always thought that "Garbo" belongs to Greta Garbo the big film star mainly because on the cover of Hunky Dory (on which this song appears) he looks like her very much, he tried to look like her.. and he managed it!! But you´re recherches go in another direction. Thank you for that.
