Who let's their toddler play in a parking lot?!!? I won't even put my two year old down when we are walking into a store from the parking lot. It's a tragedy the poor child had to pay for the parents negligence.

The toddlers mom is responsible for the baby's safety....playing in the driveway is not safe for toddlers

The neighbor was concerned that the other siblings were allowed to stand by and watch the aftermath. That neighbor is trying to say something without saying it. Poor kids.

This is what I always explain to my children when we are walking through a parking lot that most people won’t see a small child walking around their vehicle and to stick as close to us as possible and hold our hand. What a terrible tragedy… Rest In Peace to the child

I feel so sorry for both parties. I use to be a Amazon driver and I had the same thing happened to me but luckily I saw the kid before it was too late. As I was driving down a hill a two year old ran out from the sidewalk with a five year old watching it. The mother was too busy talking to her friends to see I slammed my breaks to not hit these kids. I always drove super slow for a reason and that day it paid off. All it would have taken was for me to check my route or my mirrors for that split second and I’d have to deal with that horrible ending. I hope everyone gets the needed help to be able to move on in a peaceful way.

As a former home designer and Architect: the likelihood of a child being struck by a vehicle escalates when you have garage structures situated in an L configuration. I believe it's because the inherent radius of 45° is far too tight for the human eye to navigate even at 5mph. So you can not avoid an accident. In traffic law the radius must be at least 38 without oncoming traffic.
Children must NEVER BE ALLOWED ANYWHERE NEAR AN L CONFIGURED MOTORWAY!!!! A DEATH SENTENCE.

What the heck was the kid doing in a roadway and parking area?? The mother clearly was not paying attention to traffic or where her kid was!!! I don't understand what parents are thinking, a 23 month old is not going to walk him or herself to safety!!

Parent neglect, no one is suppose to watch your child.

The van was probably pulling through and the toddler ran in front of it without time to brake. Toddlers don't know about danger unless parents teach them. Where was mom?

This is very sad, however if she was standing by her daughter then how did she not get struck by the truck as well? If there is one thing I’ve learned about toddlers is that you must keep an eye on them at all times, and have them by your side while holding their hand because they have swift feet for sure.

Why in the world would you let your two year old outside alone? What???? The mother needs to be charged for neglect!

Babies do not belong in the streets.
Keep them inside, take them to a park, there's all kinds of places you can take kids to play...but not in the fckin road 🙈

Mom didn’t notice a large Amazon van coming towards them? And how fast was this van going? Lots of questions need to be answered. I would check the cell phone records of both mom and driver. Were either of them paying attention?

I am currently helping manage an apartment complex and regularly caution, urge and sometimes yell at the children and parents about running, riding and generally playing in the parking lot and drives! We do have a playground in a safe location but the "it only happens to others" mentality seems to prevail.

OMG that's horrible.
My children were 12 and I still watched them like a hawk when they walked to the end of the driveway to check the mail.
