Africa has 54 countries. Each with a unique economy. What works in 1 country may not work in another. Let's avoid generalizing and lumping all African countries into one pile as though systems are exactly the same across the continent.

This guy is speaking 100% truth. I lived in Ghana for a couple years doing humanitarian work (Central and Western region) and while it is awesome and there are a lot of really amazing people, packing up on a whim and moving is just not a good idea. It requires a lot of planning and preparation, along with a solid plan to make money. It is so much different than it is here in the US and if you think you're going to live the same lifestyle you do there as you do here, you're in for a surprise. If you're poor here, you'll still be poor there, probably even more so--jobs and income-earning methods are not exactly like they are in the US where you can get a 9-5 at plenty of businesses to scrape by, especially if you live outside a capitol city.

The part where he mentions the concept of people not buying what you're selling/not caring about your goods/services is true. Just because you have a job as a yoga instructor or barista or self-employed artist here in the US doesn't mean anything over there. People have different priorities and needs--when the average person living in the lower-income areas of Ghana is struggling to put food on the table, do you really think they're going to pay for a yoga class, a $10 coffee every day, or a $500 painting? No. That $10 coffee equates to about 117 cedis, which is far more than what a homemade meal with locally purchased ingredients costs to feed a family of 5 for multiple days (at least it was when I was there in the late 2010s--I was spending around 100 cedis per week to eat, and I was mostly buying things from local stores/markets/chop bars with the occasional box of cereal or US-brand food).

If you want to get the same brands and things as you're used to here in the US, you're going to be paying far more due to import costs. That $1 Arizona drink in the US costs over $2. The Crest toothpaste? $7-8 per tube. A box of Frosted Flakes? $10. Most people from the US aren't going to want to live like the locals do (or even be able to), so you're going to be spending a ton more money than people who live there. They don't have the same level of healthcare facilities like they do in the US, so that's another thing to consider. If you're someone who requires harder-to-get medications or regular visits to specialist doctors, you're going to be hard pressed to find that over there.

Lastly, VISIT before you MOVE. If you visit for a couple weeks and really try to immerse yourself in the culture, food, and way of life (not living in a resort with all the amenities), see if you'd be able to live there and merge with the culture. Don't pack everything up based on what some glamorized videos say about it. Don't get me wrong, it's great, and if you really want to move, by all means, do it. With that being said, you really need to understand what you're getting yourself into, and if you aren't prepared with knowledge, money, and a very well-thought-out plan, you're likely going to be worse off there than you perceive you are here.

I’ve been in Africa for 9 months. If you live the USA/European lifestyle, you go broke. For example the same quality of burger you get in Italy for $6, in Nairobi could be $10-15.
Any foreign product is super expensive cause of extreme high import taxes.
If you move to Africa, you gotta live like Africans.

You're right! I'm a Nigerian and I stay in Nigeria so I can relate to what you're saying. If you're tryna come visit Africa or Nigeria particular you need to have someone who's very smart and familiar with the system and the environment to pull through. There's a lotta money here but you need to be very smart cos once an African finds out you're from the US, Canada or Europe the first thing that comes to the mind is "This person got a lot of money" so have a trusted African that can show you around and teach you the ways of the land. But trust me there's a lot of money here more than you can ever imagine. We're friendly even while scamming you physically (Getting money from you through lies) not cos we want to but cos we need the money to survive 😅 have a trusted African friend and thank me later. Bad Government is whats killing Africa and Africans

This just doesn't apply to countries in Africa. This applies to literally ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, including moving from state to state within the US. However, it is possible to sell everything you have, pack up and move to wherever you want to go. All you have to do is align your ducks, have resources waiting for you or just wing it. People do this all of the time! As a matter of fact, there are tons of success stories of people who have moved to Gambia or Ghana or Senegal or wherever. There were many factors as to how they were successful at doing so, as there are many factors as to how some are unsuccessful. 🤦🏾‍♀️

I went to America like two weeks ago to buy some supplies and it reminded me of why I left. Some people just need to learn how to navigate manage their lives. I'm building in Africa right now to host people from the diaspora so they can come in for a short stay study the place, study the continent and prepare themselves for moving eventually.

I don’t see how people got upset with this video. GoBlack been telling us about the financial stability you need to have in order to enjoy a life in Africa. If your funds ain’t right, Don’t take the flight ✈️ THATS COMMON SENSE. So why would anybody get mad at what he’s saying? If you got the mule to make it, by all means GO. If you don’t have a digital monthly income or a trade to run with, get things like that inline before you make the attempt. SIMPLE

First he was telling everyone to come to Africa .now he saying don’t . I’m not going to Africa to put money in the African pockets . Then you are pressure to keep a business or live on streets .. I pass I just want to visit for about 6 months & go back home .

I came to Canada from Africa as a refugee, I came from nothing my parents are farmers who always try their best to gives us all they can afford. After I arrived in Canada I know that I've to work so hard to support my family back home and I did. I just build two Houses back in Kenya. Long story short don't ever disappoint people from going to Africa. If You're not a hard working person you'll not survive anywhere, learn how to save money and have plan for the future. I know the comfort this country gives people might makes you forget where you came from.

I am from Africa living in the West & I think he has some good points in telling Afro Americans to first go & visit before deciding to settle in Africa. When we talk of Africa, we talk of it as a continent & not as a single country. There’re many countries in Africa & each country is unique. Thus if you get a negative experience in a certain African country, it does not mean that you’ll experience negative all the other African countries. So visit more than one African country & then consult your American Embassy in the nation you’ll visit & link up with your fellow Africans there to find out more of how they’re living there & of what you’ll need to live there in a better way. Africa is still a good place for many Afro.Americans or Afro Canadians or Afro Caribbeans (if there’s such a term) to go too. Even I as an African can not just go back to my country without planning for my return back.

Basically, folks have no business knowledge. They just think they will move to Africa and make it. You must be business minded to make it anywhere.

Chinese are making it big in Africa because they are business minded people and they don’t live extravagant.

Any Traveller Coming To Africa. Try as much as possible to avoid the so called YouTubers. Africa is the cheapest place to be. Those saying is expensive are living a tourist life . It is expensive because they're travelling making videos. You're coming to Africa to stay and that's the difference between you and them. They'll use UBER daily for you use public transport or buy your car. Cooking gas is very cheap . 13Kg around $20. Housing starts from one bedroom $10 to 4 bedroom 80-100. Meat $4 per kg, fruits and vegetables way cheaper . $1 can get you 10 fruits. 1 dozen of milk $7 . What's so expensive if you're not traveling country to country?
