I tried this. No matter what format or resolution I try (on an alleged 1080p file), I get the same error:

avconvert: failed with error:Cannot Decode. (null)
avconvert completed with error :1.

I can't convert using VLC either. I get similar errors.

Genius! It really makes you wonder how many of these things are hidden around the OS.

Thanks for the video. It looks like a very easy fix! Problem with my files, is that Quicktime doesn't support the AVI's to begin with so the build in converter doesn't work either. I've tried using VLC, but the files it generates are clearly worse compared to the original AVI. Any ideas?
