To convert mp4 file to avi go to media and select convert save.
Add a video you want to convert.
Click convert and save.
Over here click this little wrench icon and select avi.
Click save.
Choose the destination folder, where you want to save your avi file.
Name it and add . avi at the end of the filename.
Click save and hit start.

You can see that your mp4 file is converted.

For those who get a video with no sound: In the window shown at 0:16 in the video, Click the Audio Codec tab, and check that the audio sample rate is the same as the original, if it's still not working try a different audio codec.

The first few movies I converted: mkv to mp4 turned out fine, but now - and the last few times I have tried the conversion, it "finishes" but the conversion is incomplete - e.g. in the latest try, I have 0.98 GB out of 2.67 GB while the conversion has just stopped before completion. When I click on it (the black VLC conversion screen), I get the message: "The output file already exists. If recording continues, the file will be overridden and its content will be lost". If I click on "keep" the file just stays at 0.98 GB {and is unwatchable). If I click on "overwrite", the same old sh*t just happens again and I end up with a useless 0.98 GB blank file.

unable to convert a file into mp4 as it shows only sound not video and I am unable to do that in vlc media with H.265 WITH MP3 audio . How to resolve this

try AIX Video Player in this 2022 where you dont need any c=video cob=nvertion as it plays all

Just makes 0 byte container files that can't be moved or deleted. Doesn't work.

A shame.
