How to Convert AVI to MP4 using VLC Media Player

This helped me a lot. Thank you! Never knew I could do this so easily. For those who lost the sound: add your files and click on convert/save. In the convert dialog box, click on the spanner button, i.e., edit selected profile, then click on the audio codec tab. Check the audio box if not checked, then click on encoding parameters. Under that, click on the codec drop down list, and click mp3 (or any other option if that didn't work). Hope that helped you!

its now H.265 not H.264
do i still use h264 + mp3 (TS)
then change it to mp4 using the wrench button
or do i use h.265?

Yes! I just found old AVI concert footage from 9 years ago on a memory card . . . . I converted it with ease after figuring out how to restore the audio from the comments. Thank you so much!!
