The Art of Trusting One's Self - The Philosophy of Ralph Waldo Emerson

Emerson's combination of eastern and western philosophies provided a uniquely eclectic perspective for his time. Today, his ideas may seem to permeate the common place, which is only a testament to the influence his work had on the world at large. Agree with his ideas or not, his work is beautifully written and an appealing guiding light though self examination.

“If we hide or hinder ourselves in fear of rejection of others, are we not in essence, rejecting ourselves first?” Bad ass

Having just finished photoshopping a dolphin and horse together for no particular reason, Emerson's message here was slightly reassuring.

*Godfather of self reliance*
Once you realise that you are in a driving seat for your life, you become tremendously empowered.
From that point and on, every steps brings you closer to heights of your potential.

"In order to be a good minister it was necessary to leave the ministry" this applies in so many areas of life.

Which could be interpreted as "In order to be a better individual, I had to leave the group."

John Nash had a similar thought process when searching for his truly original idea.

This came at the perfect time. After 28 years, I am finally beginning to learn to trust myself and it is taking me places and giving me good things. It feels so weird but feels so good. I've entered a new job, a new industry, I'm single, after nearly three years, and I am so happy to go on my OWN and enjoy my own presence. I also notice instead of doubting myself as default, I actively acknowledge negative thoughts and their presence but choose to remind myself that I CAN do that something. It feels weird, but it is refreshing.

What a beautiful amalgamation of life, humanity, and religion. <3

"if all we can know and experience is our self, how can any life be lived fully, if one denies themselves before even trying?"

Something I’ve realized after becoming a YouTube junkie the past few months is that everyone on YouTube in the comment sections be on the same vibe. You got the deep comments, the funny ones, and the ones that make you think. I love it.

This is one of the few channels I can watch now. I recently abandoned the whole self-improvement thing, as I realized it was causing more damage than good. This channel and a few others are an exception, and I can't explain in words why. It feels way more healthy and productive, helping us reach our truest selves, rather than improving for external factors like getting women or gaining a higher frame other others.

“Great artist and writers aren’t merely popular because they say something no one has thought of or experienced before. But because they say something most of us have but weren’t sure if we were right to do so.” Well said!

This is kind of amazing to me... Over the course of my life I have had very similar ideas to the ones expressed in this video, but I always felt as if they were 'too crazy' or somehow just unproductive and so I pushed them away. Only lately have I realized just how ingrained it is in us in most modern societies to forget about what's *really* important in life (and most importantly to ourselves), so I started writing my ideas down. Trusting they were good, and even if they were wrong I was putting forth a perspective that I _accepted_ could be wrong—it was freeing. To see this, after just recently finally starting to truly trust myself, really means the world.

This really speaks to me. Life was so beautiful to me when I was younger. I was carefree and I was brilliant. I knew I didn't really understand the world but I didn't care, I leaned into it. But as I became a teenager I had to cope with a lot of trauma and mental illness and I threw myself into religion. I started to care a lot and messing up was never an option. I've become so consumed with perfection and understanding everything in its entirety that I spend all my time hidden away in my room. The world isn't beautiful anymore, it's terrifying. Everything that I used to do so easily is so hard now. Everything that I used to love is so meaningless. It's like I've had who I am taken away from me. I don't even know how to be that person anymore, so how can I rely on them? I think I just need to convince myself that its ok to be that person again, that its ok not to care, that its ok to live for my own enjoyment. Once I manage to do that I think the mask I can't remove will melt away. I think this video helped. Thanks.

If you have time give a read, I also had written a similar essay once -"We have a natural obligation to the cosmos to express our own human experience and subjective reality of this world from our inner eye. The world exists for us and from us. Our consciousness is the way by which the universe experiences itself. Every human, shaped and moulded by the infinitely many elements of this cosmos, has something unique to present back to the cosmos, which is, the intangible multi-faceted human experience which can't be described by mere objective facts. It can only be described in the invisible interaction of the words, human emotions, sounds, colours, their texture, structure and flow in every person's artistic self-expression. The selection of words, the arrangement of words, the visualisation created by them, the storytelling, all are unique to the author and subconsciously places us in the author's mind for the moment. The composition of colours, the technique, the aesthetics, the way the lines, shapes and surroundings meet represents a subliminal message from the artist, both consciously and subconsciously. This subtle aspect of personal touch can never be taken away from the creator even when his work can be replicated or reproduced in other aspects. Every story ever written, represents something about the writer themselves. Every art ever created is a peek into the creator's soul. In a general sense, everyday, the world we surround ourselves with, is a reflection of the values and self-expression of all the beings who have interacted with it. No matter how much we avoid, inevitably we ingrain our inimitable beliefs, values and ourselves into the work that we do everyday. So it's important that we turn this interaction into voluntary means to project ourselves. Thus, everyone capable should find their suitable form of self-expression to document their own original viewpoint of this world. In this plethora of human creativity, everyone might not connect to our art but it is our duty towards the some that do."

One Master Stated - "Individuation"
Another Master Said- "Become What You Are"
Retreat yourself from everything into the citadel of your mind, that he said...
No matter what happens, don't let yourself go away.
Thank you again Sir, for your work, it helps.

Peace.

Standing on the bare ground, - my head bathed by the blithe air, and uplifted into infinite space, - all mean egotism vanishes. I become a transparent eye-ball; I am nothing; I see all; the currents of the universal being circulate through me; I am part of particle of god. -Ralph Waldo Emerson
