Understanding Someone Else's Perspective – a life lesson

One of the most important lessons for students to learn is this idea of recognizing their own perspective - understanding stories from various points of view. This is especially
important in understanding history.

____

As many states in the U.S. are changing the name of Columbus Day to
Indigenous Peoples Day, it is important for students to understand both the
European and the Indigenous perspective of this well-known story in history.

I've created a FREE resource looking at the story of Columbus from both perspectives. It uses Jane Yolen's wonderful picture book, 'Encounter', and includes a lesson based on this video as well.

Thanks!

I showed this to my students this morning and it went perfectly well with our morning meeting on "considering different perspectives". Thank you for this!
