Marketing departments are ruining the tech industry and engineers are taking the blame. You can't just pick random date in the future and expect a tech product with billions of variables will be designed, produced and tested in that time frame. We are basically getting engineering samples at retail prices hoping they will be in working conditions somewhere down the line.

AMD: We released Ryzen 9000! We hope it's faster than the Ryzen 7000's!
Intel: We released a BIOS to fix the 13th and 14th gen issue! We hope it works!

"We have sold you a car with the front wheel axle sawed in half. You can lose steering and crash. We have found a brilliant solution: a firmware update that limits the speed if there are holes in the road or if the shock absorbers shake too much, also limits the speed in general.
You can still end up going down a cliff and die, in that case we'll see what to do on a case by case if we feel like it. Don't complain or we won't help you anymore."
This is great reliability and customer service. Who knows why they lost 40% of their stock value in 1 month and 50% in 6 months?

I don’t see how a BIOS update can compensate for degraded silicon. It’s like painting over rust….

Most people will not apply the BIOS update. Enthusiasts like myself and yourself will(maybe), and probably IT departments worldwide. But everyone else? Most definitely not. "Hey mom(73), you know that computer I built for you; you're going to have to do a BIOS update to preserve the life of your computer." By the end of that sentence her brain will have already melted down.

No microcode will fix the oxidation issue. Those chips should be recalled and replaced.

I can't believe user benchmark still comes up to the top of google searches. Talking about bias.

I build a new PC every three to five years. So, not a first adopter, not a big-budget reviewer. I'm an old man (RETIRED, HOORAY!) and I have a long memory, for now. I can't speak for anyone but myself. I did my last build in December of 2023. As is usual, I built a shade under the top-of-the-line, as the Finance Minister frowns on $1000-plus GPUs. My prior machine was an Intel CPU, again not top-of-the-line. I decided to go back to AMD this time, and am very glad I did. My new one is fast, has great graphics, and is "stable as at table." I MIGHT go back to Intel in a few years, depending on how things look then. I don't hate Intel, but I do resent paying a huge premium for a chip that isn't any better for MY needs. "We're all different, with our own lives and lifestyles, your mileage may vary, do your own research. Blah blah blah." It's my money, and I'll buy what I want. I thank Paul, Steve, and Jay for helping me make good decisions.

Frame Chasers already showed the microcode update doesn't fully fix the voltage spikes.

At this rate I’m just happy if my PC doesn’t explode.

Man those youtuber jokes at the started had me cackling, especially the "minimalist view on pocket change"

All they did was lengthen the degradation rate so you will be out of luck once the warranty runs out.
