It's fascinating hearing that the first record Vince Clarke had bought was Sparks 'This Town'. I was 14 in '74, the year 14 is when intelligent boys ears tune into the best music going around but It too blew me away like nothing else I'd ever heard before. So naturally I've been a huge Sparks fan all my life & when Depeche Mode first hit the airwaves I naturally tuned into them as well. Funny how things work out sometimes. Sparks are bigger today than they've ever been so I chose my favourite band wisely & the knock offs were brilliant too as in DM, Yazoo, Erasure, Soft Cell, PSB, Blancmange etc etc.
It would be cool to hear something recorded by Vince somewhere respecting the Mael Bros & their influence. People need educating & Vince could pop out a tune in his sleep to honour Sparks. Great 'Who wants to be a millionaire' question too for all those quizmasters!
My first bought record was 'Tears of a clown' by Smokey Robinson in '70. Now that was a classic!

"They (Sparks) were undervalued." Yes, I agree.
