The fact that he couldn't initially hide the happiness on his face, but also reacted in the same tone and cadence as the man interviewing him before he couldn't resist checking to see if the man was stupid enough to believe him. He not only loves himself and his monstrous brutality, he likes to talk about it to anyone, but he tries and fails with normal emotions to such an extent he's fascinated with mimicking them. Ted was probably the most terrifying serial killer. Because of his complete awareness of humanity and their actions. One of the very few that were capable of dehumanizing anything like switching on a light.
