Am I a minimalist? Can I as a person who owns more things than can fit into a suitcase still be allowed to say they're minimal?

Which one are you or want to be?

I get so many questions about the things in my apartment and what I like and wear so I've collected links for many of them below.

I’m an “I want to be like Benita” minimalist. However anyone labels it, you have a beautiful way with spaces, and with words/video, and I’m grateful to your for sharing your lifestyle. It’s very inspiring! 🌻

“A space that doesn’t keep adding to my to-do list”. THIS really stood out for me. Thankyou for making me realise where my stress is coming from. 😘

Benita, I love what you said, "In my book you're a minimalist if you choose what you have around you intentionally." That is also my conception of minimalism--and, like you, I'm a gradual minimalist. You're far more advanced than I am, and very inspiring, thank you! 💕💕✨

I am 31, no kids and 2 kitties. I fall into many of these categories of minimalism as well. When I spend time away from home and come back to my minimalist space I am always grateful. I’ve been enjoying your shorts of the fall beauty of Sweden. Would love to see a long “slow tv” one of Stockholm during the holidays!

You’re absolutely right. For me, minimalism is synonymous with “make life easier”. Also, love the kitty closeups. 💕

I’m a green, gradual, practical minimalist as I used to be a hoarder and the impracticality of it hit me when I got sick. So I gradually sorted one box at a time from my bed until it was done. Then I made deliberate choices about my food n self care and got myself out of bed. The green aspect of understanding the amount of resources it takes to make my clothes, or the fossil fuels it takes to make plastics made me not re-hoard. Then I let go of painful relationships etc… when my life hurt less I started to regain my health, it’s a journey

“…not at all minimally inclined.” Very diplomatic way of saying “clutter bug”. Great video as always. Thank you!

Tack så mycket Benita for your lovely videos! For me, in addition to the definitions here and on Ashlynne's video, a minimalist is someone who enjoys decluttering and simplifying their life and spaces, who is repeatedly and naturally just drawn to that process, and for whom the letting go of no longer wanted items is (maybe even unusually) easy and pleasurable. Greetings from Finland!

I've always been a less is more person, even when my husband and I lived in our large country home. When we became empty nesters and decided to move into the city into an urban condo we definitely downsized. We got rid of 90% of everything we owned and slowly brought in only what was needed and or loved. We love our new home with its high ceilings, floor to ceiling windows, light wood floors and cool coloured interior.
It's definitely easier if the you live alone or your partner is on the same page as you and want to reduce and minimalize. We couldn't live any way else now, it's just such a comfortable easy way to live, so much less stress!!!
Love your channel 😊🍁🇨🇦

The cozy part is what makes a home warm and inviting. You have to have that if your home is to be your refuge.

Grey/white for decor, wool and wood for warmth, green plants for a touch of life.

Who would give this a “thumbs down?” Sad these people are so mean spirited. Benita, you are a Joy to listen to and your lifestyle is so calming and peaceful. I always look forward to your videos! Please ignore the negative ones….

Mini has the most beautiful shade of orange fur; so intensely bright! I enjoy seeing both of your kitties in your videos.

The whole suitcase minimalist started in the advent of social media. I've been a minimalist for over 30 years. It ebbs and flows. When I was single, yes I fit everything, minus furniture, into a duffle bag and backpacks. I married and I had more when my son was a baby and I needed a few things. Family life required a few more things but I also kept it decluttered and simple. He is older now and I moving back into a more curated but comfortable with a lot of frugal. LOL I am an artist, but my medium changes, so do the amount and type of supplies I use. I am an avid book reader but no longer have the shelves upon shelves of books, simply because I am moving a lot with my new job. At one point, I had 7 pets, because I could and it was where I was in my life. I now have just 2 cats. I started at minimal white everything, moved into some color in my 30's and now in my 40's, I am just piecing it together with what I absolutely love, and it's my own aesthetic. I also have had 3 different careers, so my wardrobe and lifestyle has moved with where I am. My biggest take away is do not be afraid to try something new, as long as you learn and grow from it. Be in the now, the rest really is just stuff. <3 I can so relate to the cat sliding with the comforter. Every morning! LOL

Your opinions are so intelligent and well balanced. Some videos about minimalism make me anxious. Yours are calming and truly inspirational. Thank you so much.

I think minimalism is practicality. I like to look at my things but not all at once. .❤❤ I only buy things I love. I KEEP what I love.
Thanks Benita!
