At one point, you likely saw a gravel bike for the first time. Once you got over how cool it looked and stopped pondering all the places you would ride it, your next thought may have been, "Isn't a gravel bike just a road bike with knobby tires?" Well, sort of, but here are a number of key differences that set gravel bikes apart from road bikes, and that's where Trek athlete Kiel Reijnen comes in.

I got a Domane last month. Best of both worlds!

The difference in geometry is actually less issue when the rider already got used with the bike. I think there is no difference at all than the size of the tires.

Road racing bikes used to have a more slack geometry and longer wheelbase, especially for longer road races and stage races like the Tour de France. They used wider tires, too, before tires went ultra narrow (20mm) in the 1980s. So, nothing new about "gravel" bikes!

Well said, which one do you recommend for commuting in the city, I have always look at a mountain bike, but now I'm sure what would be good 😕

Trek domane is literally all that I need. Bought one of them few months ago and you can modify them and use it for everything!

can a road bike be converted to a gravel bike, retaining the body and fork?

Gravel bikes are cyclocross bikes I purchased 10 years ago to ride recreationally and I don't cyclocross.
