Set Paging File Size in Windows

The fast and easy way to set your page file size in Windows. This works in all modern versions of Windows including Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10, and Windows 11.

Setting a manual page file size in Windows can be helpful as it allows you to control the amount of disk space that is allocated for virtual memory. This can be useful in optimizing system performance, especially on systems with limited space. By manually setting the page file, you can ensure that there is enough space for the operating system to store the data it needs to temporarily move from RAM to the hard drive or SSD. This can prevent the system from slowing down or running out of memory when handling demanding tasks.

Additionally, setting the page file initial size and maximum size to be the same value prevents Windows from having to change the size of the file while the computer is being used, leading to possible degraded performance and page file fragmentation.

What do you keep your Windows page file set at?

Do not follow the video's advice because this can lead to frequent bluescreen and instability up to a forever bluescreen and bricked software. Setting your initial size the same as your max is not recomended. Make a restore point before following me.

If you want to actually set your VM to the highest. Here's how:

Open up your calculator and calculate your ram. Here's the formula "RAM × 1024". For the initial size, Use the formula, then multiply by 1.5. It should look like this "(RAM × 1024) × 1.5". To do the maximum, Multiply it by 3, it should look like this "(RAM × 1024) × 3".

Here's some calculated RAM I've done

2GB ram:
Initial - 3072
Max - 6144

4GB ram:
Initial - 6144
Max - 12288

8GB ram:
Initial - 12288
Max - 24576

12GB ram:
Initial - 18432
Max - 36864

16GB ram:
Initial - 24576
Max - 49152

24GB ram:
Initial - 36864
Max - 73728

32GB ram:
Initial - 49152
Max - 98304

This is tested with 16GB ram. Proceed at your own caution. Anything above the calculated RAM will cause huge consequences.

you don't know how much you've helped me bruh, my virtual memory after dual booting was 0, and i was doing all kinds of scans to understand why every application on my windows side is crashing, but then this helped me solve the problem I've been trying to solve this all day😭😭

I placed, in both boxes, ram times 1024 times 2

In my old pc (Intel 4gb of ram) was:

4x1024x2

Equals 8 with something

Placed in both boxes, accept and restart

Gave me more disk space, I had 20gb free now 30gb and made my games run faster

NO I'm not kidding, Intel 4gb

On my laptop of 8gb I chose the option that says "system managed size" also made things go faster, even made my crashing rdr2 finally run

Made RDR2 work, Intel 8gb of ram

The automatic option, the first one, made everything go slower

The truth is.

I would only work on low end pcs/laptops.

Virtual memory (VM) and paging file size can impact performance, but not always positively.
If RAM is insufficient: VM can prevent crashes by using disk space when RAM fills up. Increased paging file size may help if this is a frequent issue.

If RAM is enough: VM is rarely used, so a larger paging file won't help. It might even slow things down due to unnecessary disk access.
