Luxury brands are conning people into spending insane amounts of money through deceptive manipulation tactics. Brands like LVMH, a fashion conglomerate that owns Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Fendi and many others are one such brand that marks up their items significantly through clever marketing and leveraging celebrities and luxury influencers to endorse them. It was recently revealed that Dior paid just $57 to produce a bag that they sold for nearly $2,800 to customers. They were also accused of using sweatshops similar to fast fashion brands like Temu and SHEIN. In this video, I deinfluence you from luxury brands by revealing the behind-the-scenes happenings of LVMH and other luxury brands that elucidate how little value luxury, and designer goods really have and how they are a direct result of worker exploitation. Through the overconsumption of luxury brands, we are complicit in the exploitation of workers across the globe.

I agree, I don’t want to be an “elite”. I just want to live comfortably and not have to decide whether I should buy groceries or pay bills this week

Luxury brands are definitely a silly concept. There's nothing wrong with having something nice but when you feel the need to flaunt it to others because you think it will give you some kind of status is actually counterproductive. Most people don't really care how green another person grass is because they're too focused on their own grass. lol

At this point, they’re just mocking poor people and seeing how far they would go to buy the brand. We’re social test subjects.

It's a shame that Marilyn Monroe is remembered as such a caricature. She was nothing like her "Diamonds" character Lorelei, and in fact, she resented "dumb blonde" roles! She rented jewelry and designer dresses to wear to events, but dressed and lived quite modestly in "real life", to the point where people seldom recognized her in person unless she was "in character". For me, it started with admiring her beauty - and I am forever grateful that I was more interested in the woman than the diamonds she wore, since instead I got to know the woman behind that iconic image - a very intellectual, compassionate, and complex person whose strength of character and resilience continue to inspire me today.

So many luxury brands are so ugly too! Like if I’m gonna pay $1, 000 for a bag (hypothetically), I want a beautiful quality bag, covered with like 3D fabric flowers. I want a dress that’s a gown covered in 3D monarch butterflies (not real of course). I see all of these luxury brands and rich people clothing and I’m like this looks so ugly! If I had “eff you” money, I would want creative beautiful pieces made of quality materials. It’s a much bigger “brag” (to me anyway) to be able to say “I paid top dollar for this quality bag, hand made and designed by people who were paid a liveable wage, and it’s a creative artistic piece I can carry with me”. Do any of you get what I mean?

Balenciaga is the trashiest most tackiest brand 🤢 I agree with your statement of it being a social experiment by setting high prices for stupid ass shit like a towel skirt, dirty shoes and potato chip bag, so people who are low income can claim it. It’s an absolute mess

Here's how I look rich. I drive around and I look for fancy neighborhoods. Then I look for the closest Goodwill, Salvation Army, consignment, store, secondhand store, etc. Then I study the people in the fancy neighborhoods. When I figure out what time of year they dump their clothes and shoes and purses and jewelry, I go to the stores and buy all of their stuff for about $100.❤❤ This is where taught me that rich people throw things away very quickly all of the time, no matter how much they cost. Because they get to replace it easily.

That's why i don't like when famous people say they are against child labor, exploitation of people, etc. and then are out wearing these high end brands....you wouldn't wear something you're against 🙂

Whenever i see someone hoarding expensive items, like bags or shoes, i think they are just chasing something they will never have. Hoarding (not simple collecting) almost always has a mental issue attached, or something lacking in an emotional department.

I’m so glad I grew up poor. Being poor made me realize how stupid it is to spend so much money on such frivolous things. My favorite store is the ¥100 store. A ¥3, 000 ($30) purse is all I need. I don’t care what others think. If it’s functional, that’s all that matters.

Even before knowing this i don't understand spending so much for a handbag. I can think of so many other things to spend my money on.

From an italian i think there's very big problems in our country too many people in too many jobs that are used and paid too less too many families like mine barely getting over the line of the month and the scary perception that us student will never have a good job or be treated nicely (here in italy many job bosses? i don't know how to say it but they continue to be angry at us young people for not wanting an exhausting job for a pay that's less than enough to get a rent saying that we don't want to work) but the real probelm are the politicians that raise taxes and the price of everything but not the money we get at the end of the month i see too many people get only carts of water at markets because they work at fields and they get enough money to only get the cheapest things to survive such as water. it's a bad economical thing that affects all of us

well done, as usual. I have to say, as someone who largely avoids social media and trends, I have never thought these things were desireable or attractive. Being a hermit probably isn't the answer for most people, but stepping back from the onslaught of media messaging definitely frees you up to see how things really are and makes you less vulnerable to their pressures. I think the real answer is to continue to nourish ourselves, body, mind and spirit-- true nourishment and healing, not products marketed as self care. When you feel good and balanced within yourself, you don't need to try to fill the void or seek external approval.

My dear Nan who was a very stylish AND wise lady always despised anything with a logo/branding on it. She always said, "Why would I pay money to advertise for someone else?!" lol. Still true today! Logos are not teally even starus symbols, as most truly wealthy individuals wouldn't be caught dead wearing them. Quiet and classic well made pieces are the way to go.

I wish everyone could see this video. You did such an amazing job explaining how people would rather go broke to look rich rather than be rich…

I usually don’t comment but I felt compelled to. I was an exchange student in South Africa when I was in high school and my exchange “father” was a diamond tycoon who supplied DeBeers. Manz was rolling in it. As part of my experience there, I went to Lesotho (a landlocked country within ZA) and some of the workers there said their work supplied the EXACT company my exchange “father” was the CEO of. They made the equivalent of a cent for working basically all day. Of course, they were native South Africans. I was disgusted, never looked at the man the same. I was able to have a glimpse into the luxury life (being waited on by butlers/maids, having a driver take me wherever I wanted, and going to their 3/6 houses they had in JUST South Africa alone) and let me tell you, I myself felt grimy knowing all that was attained by exploitative practices, and frankly, through modern-day slavery. It was really saddening, nauseating, and I struggled grappling with those facts long after I came back to the US. 😞

At my kids private school, they don’t allow brand symbols to be worn. You can’t have nike or even Disney characters. I think it’s wonderful. It’s teaching children to not care about brands but the feel of the clothes. The school is 100% outdoors in the younger grades. The children want their clothes that are warm and don’t rip when they climb trees. (Waldorf school incase someone wanted to know)

Edit: My children attend a private school on a scholarship. I bust my butt working 3 jobs, 7 days a week. Opportunities are out there and I am NOT going to feel bad about my decisions. Some people love putting others down. I chose to be happy and live with an attitude of gratitude.

People are just paying for word “luxury” than the actual product. Thanks for exposing the truth ❤
