Dior's $2800 Bag Costs Just $57 to Make! | Vantage with Palki Sharma

Recent investigations have revealed that two of Italy's most prominent luxury fashion houses, Dior and Giorgio Armani, pay a surprisingly low amount to produce handbags that retail for thousands of dollars. Documents examined by the authorities show that Dior paid a supplier only $57 to make bags that sell for about $2,780. So, what explains this stupendous price markup? Are you paying for quality handbags or are you paying for the brand? Palki Sharma answers the questions.

This is why I prefer to support small businesses who make high quality products with a more reasonable markup.

I worked for 4 years in Prada, 3 months in Dior and mixed branded shops. I agree with the information provided in this video that most of the time ridiculous prices don't represent the quality at all. They teach employees to sell the image and say we are selling emotions rather than product itself. It is just brainwashing.

I used to work at a Fine Art Printshop in NYC. We worked with a prominent artist who would literally paint a single paint stroke on a printing plate. We would then print that image 50 times on $20 sheets of paper. Sold each copy for $5000 each. Entire edition sold out. It’s all about “perceived value”.

People who buy these products have more money than sense.

There is a saying, '' you don't just buy the brand, you buy the arrogance with it.''

I think same applies to Gucci, Chanel, Louis Vuitton and every luxury brand, we are just paying for the brand not the actual product itself.

I watched a documentary from 10 years ago where Kering was exposed for outsourcing manufacturing to contractors that employe exploited chinese migrant workers. Because Kering and other luxury brands want to maintain their Made in Italy status, but want to keep their high profit margins. What they could do is simply open factories in China, but that would mean having to label their products as Made in China. So that's when the contractors come in, instead of making products in China, they bring chinese workers to Italy. These migrant workers have to live in the factory compound in squalor and are paid very little in the sweatshops. If you buy replica bags from China, don't feel guilty, those bags are probably more ethically manufactured than the authentic bags.

There is no reason for a bag like the Birkin to cost anywhere from $20, 000 and up.

We all need to buy things that are locally manufactured.

My sister buys such bags...more than the fear of losing money...she fears losing the bag!!

Reason - madness. Show off. Lower self esteem and self assurance. To feel equal to the ppl who are above them in social status.
To let others know how well off she is...and what a great lifestyle she has.

She regrets now...after layoff. Dont waste money. Its not just notes. Its ur time, hardwork, effort and skill. Respect them.

American here, I love when I find Made in India things, you people make some of the best stuff, especially fabric, linen....Some of the worst stuff are made in Italy, sure you have the luxury label, but their stuff sucks longevity wise, and Ferrari and Lamborghini? They are museum pieces, not to be driven everyday, especially worst is Maserati, they are throwaway automobiles. India you have the technique and brainpower to be a powerhouse of manufacturing, I think India, not China, should be the country to do business with, god bless.

Why is it that when Palki Sharma says that the news is unfiltered and unvarnished i believe her? I think her reputation for great journalism speaks for itself

So WHY this brands not being investigated, exposed and punish ?
When I produced my product I was allowed only mark up 25%..they do 500% O more
It's a crime...they did for many years. Dupies shouldn't be punished at all...

There’s a special dignity in wearing unbranded high quality items, instead of embarassing obnoxious logos of other people’s names as unpaid advertisement.
The real luxury is in bespoke items! Unique, one of a kind models.
There are similar unbranded designer inspired ones sold online for far less, with their own twist in design. Just make sure you test for lead content in the paint, varnish, and hardware…

Luxury brands are allowed to charge whatever they want. It’s up to the buyer whether they want to spend money or not. No brand is forcing people to buy their luxury products!

That's why I don't buy Branded items; I buy things that fulfill the intrinsic need, not for optics and validation.
