I liked the original, I loved Spielberg’s remake. Making the tomboy a trans character and bringing back Rita Moreno as the shop owner brought such layered improvements to the story. You’d never know this was the first musical he’d ever directed!!

The original will always be my favorite, but I did enjoy Spielberg's adaptation.

The video pretty much says "yes" the newer is better in numerous ways and I agree, but I have yet to see anyone say the obvious: the 1961 version is dishonest in dubbing singing voices of the lead actors, which in my mind is a giant detriment. But the 2021 version is annoyingly condescending not providing subtitles for extended Spanish-speaking scenes....and this video ignored that, too.
