Ernie Hudson shares his memories of Brandon Lee, on the set of The Crow. He tells Tony Horton about the challenges of finishing the film and his thoughts on the upcoming remake/ reboot of The Crow.

In this compelling interview, actor Ernie Hudson sits down with Tony Horton to share his personal and poignant memories of his friendship with Brandon Lee, the talented actor and martial artist who tragically passed away during the filming of The Crow. Ernie reflects on the strong bond they formed on set and the impact Brandon's death had on him personally and professionally.

The Crow is a dark and haunting tale that has left a lasting impact on both film and comic book fans. Originally created by James O'Barr as a comic book series in 1989, The Crow tells the story of Eric Draven, a man brutally murdered along with his fiancée by a gang of criminals. One year later, he is resurrected by a mystical crow to seek vengeance on those responsible for their deaths. The comic is celebrated for its raw emotion, striking black-and-white artwork, and themes of love, loss, and revenge.

The 1994 film adaptation, directed by Alex Proyas and starring Brandon Lee in the role of Eric Draven, brought The Crow to the big screen with a gothic aesthetic that perfectly captured the dark tone of the original comic. The film is notable not only for its atmospheric visuals and powerful soundtrack but also for the tragic death of Brandon Lee during filming, which added an eerie and poignant layer to the movie's legacy. The Crow has since become a cult classic, praised for its intense narrative and emotional depth, while also standing as a tribute to Lee’s final and most memorable performance.

Ernie Hudson is one of this generation’s most well-versed actors. Ernie previously starred in the acclaimed Netflix drama series “Grace and Frankie” as the love interest of Lily Tomlin. He also stars and executive produces “The Family Business” for BET and guest starred in two episodes of STARZ’s show “City on a Hill.” Other television credits include, “Modern Familly,” “The Secret Life of the American Teenager,” “Law & Order,” “Oz”, and ”LA’s Finest” in which he portrayed Gabrielle Union’s father. Hudson earned a Golden Satellite Award for Best Actor in a Series for his performance in HBO’s acclaimed prison drama “Oz.” His additional film credits include “Miss Congeniality,” with Sandra Bullock and Michael Caine; Jay Craven’s “A Stranger in the Kingdom”; “The Crow” with Brandon Lee; Curtis Hanson’s “The Hand that Rocks the Cradle,” opposite Matt McCoy and Julianne Moore; and ”Sugarwheels” with Vincent Maeder, and Navah Rapharl. The multi-faceted actor is probably best known for his work on the enduring franchise “Ghostbusters,” in which he portrayed Winston Zeddemore, one of the four Ghostbusters. He recently reprised the role in Ghostbusters: Afterlife and confirmed that he will be starring in their new upcoming film.

Ernie and Brandon had great chemistry in The Crow, like they were instantly good friends as soon as their characters meet. It's cool to know that they were actually good friends in real life.

It's so nice to hear Ernie talk that way about Brandon. It's a damn shame that happened. There's no doubt in my mind that Brandon was gonna blow up after The Crow. It was a star-making performance. There's only ONE Crow. RIP, Brandon Lee. 😢

The Crow is my comfort movie. I'm the same age as Rochelle who played Sarah, now I'm in my 40's and it feels like it wasn't that long ago yet it's 30 years ago and Ernie has barely aged. But I see Ernie I will stop and watch no matter what. I watched the 4k release on Sunday night for the first time and it still gets me.

I met Ernie at a horror convention in Cincinnati, way back in 2011. There wasn't a line, so we talked for quite a bit about his career as well as the Marine Corps (I'm now medically retired, and he was medically separated early on in his enlistment). We gave each other a hug at the end, and I'm telling you right now it felt like hugging a giant rock. Videos don't do justice to how insanely fit he is. Also, far and away one of the nicest, most gracious actors I've ever met (Robert Patrick coming in at a close second).
