I completely agree with Michael Caine - Only BAD MOVIES should get remade

It's kind of funny and a bit ironic how the author of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" Roald Dahl didn't like the Gene Wilder 1971 "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" and Gene Wilder didn't like the 2005 remake of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory".

I fully agree with Nancy Allen, you don't remake iconic films. You would think that Hollywood would have learned their lesson with the 1998 remake of Psycho. As a sci fi fan, Robocop (1987) to me is one of the most iconic science fiction movies in history. No matter how talented you are, some stories just can not be remade.

The Mummy 1999 was my childhood. Quick fact. Tom Cruise was supposed to be Rick before they settled on Brendan Fraser.

Regarding Tom Cruise... I remember how furious Anne Rice became when he was cast as Lestat in Interview With The Vampire, so much so that she publicly decried that he was completely wrong for the role. Mr. Cruise later noted that the criticism stung, especially as she hadn't even seen him in the part and took the part very seriously to show her up. And show her up he did, because when she saw early clips of him in character she was blown away. She issued a public retraction of her earlier statements saying that she was wrong to have not given Tom Cruise a chance and praised him in the part. And I for one loved his portrayal; no doubt many boxes were stood upon, but he did a masterful job. In my opinion, Tom Cruise may be a bit odd in real life, but he has proven time and time again that he can deliver the goods.

From the reaction I sensed from Angela Lansbury, I don't think she *hated* the remake, she stated in the interview that it wouldn't be the same as the cartoon version, but she did say it was going to be interesting and perhaps entertaining. I wouldn't call it hate, she just didn't understand why they did a remake for the movie, but I don't think she hated on it.

This is going to be VERY controversial *puts on flame retardant suit*
As much as I LOVE Gene Wilders Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory, it WAS not very faithful to the source material, the author of the book HATED the movie adaptation, and in fact flopped at the box office pretty hard, it wasnt until the 80's that it enjoyed success, and its status it enjoys today. The 2005 remake is actually faaaar closer to the source material than Gene Wilders WWCF.
The 1971 release is literally a product of its reputation that was bestowed upon and because of that; the 2005 "remake" is unfairly judged. And tbh calling it a "remake" is a misnomer as it can be classed as a reboot and is more or less closer to the original source material than the initial movie release ever was.

But I digress, I still adore the Gene Wilder version over the Johnny Depp version.

You can't make a living playing covers on the guitar, you have to write your won music, why doesn't Hollywood respect that and try and give us something new? More movie theaters should run classics as well.

To be fair, the Robocop remake WAS completely unnecessary.

I have to agree about "Fame". The original was gritty, fearless, and real. The first problem the remake had was they watered it down to a PG-13, losing a huge part of its "grit", even taking one of the most pivotal scenes and, instead of making it a life lesson, made it "empowering", losing the whole point. The second problem was that some of the scenes - the entire lunchroom scene, for instance - and having it be almost a frame-for-frame copy. I said to myself, "if she walks out of the caf with a piece of fruit and makes a friend on the stairs, I'll scream." I screamed (albeit softly; my husband, who works 3rd shift, was asleep.) The third problem was that there was absolutely no heart. Just a bunch of pretty people walking through their roles. It was cold and dull. I've watched the original "Fame" more times than I care to mention (and am due for another viewing soon)...but I'm so glad that I only Redboxed the remake. Once.

Well, doing a remake is tricky and there will always be people who prefer living in the past (and often they are right, especially when it comes to some of these movies). 😊
